In this video, I go over a medicine that has slowly become relegated to the days of yesterday. What was once so common, almost every household knew about it and made it. Now, the information is slowly falling into obscurity. Hopefully, this video, can help us remember or at least not forget, the importance of this abundant resource.
Just remember, not all evergreen sap is the same. While pines are generally considered safe, cedars are actually mildly toxic and can flare up asthma issues if inhaled. In this video, I used a southern yellow pine resin, also known as loblolly pine, which is very common in the southeast.

To save a step, next time put the raw resin inside the layers of gauze/cheese cloth and secured the top with a wire - add that directly to most of your oil and heat. The resin will melt into the oil, the bark will stay in the cheesecloth and no need to filter it. 👍🏻

Thank you! First thing I always think of is pine pitch glue. Then fat wood fires. But I've been using this stuff on my hand and it's working great. Wife is insisting I use it on my heels next. You totally need to jump into the medicinal realm not just because of your background but because you can grow and harvest specifics and can learn quickly when things are at their best. It takes a certain type of eye to see this stuff and you got it

from the scared old trees that was for sap harvest the v angle was close to 90degrees. and they had a series of Vs half dozen to a dozen marks. the sap ran down the v to the point were it was collected. your mark on the tree was not angled enough for it to run down the v but it ran over it.

You can buy the tins of Amazon. I've also used half pint Mason jars. I use pine primarily. You can use other conifers but just research before you do as some can be toxic. Pine is not toxic

Hi I have four questions, please. 1. is pine resin the same as pine tar? 2. is pine resin the same as turpentine? 3. is the resin from any pine tree good, or it must be a specific pine tree? - in fact, extending my question, is any resin from any tree also good? 4. what are the healing properties of this balm? what is it good for? Thank you very much for this video, loved it!
@PalmettoPrepared
@PalmettoPrepared 2 ай бұрын
Thank you and sure thing, let me see if I can help 1) no resin is just a better name for raw sap. Pine tar is made from heating the resin out of the wood. I have also done a video on this process. 2) turpentine is made from distilling resin much like how one would distill ethanol or spirits from fermented grain. 3) generally all pines are considered safe. Some are better for resin than others. Yellow and white pine are the best. 4) Great for the skin. Stops microbial growth and when combined with a great carrier oil like jujube or olive, helps heal the skin. Personally I've used this on minor skin issues like windburn, minor burns, rashes, insect bites, and even helped stopped itching from when had poison ivy on my forearm.

Pine products are not out of favor by chance. Chemical companies play a very big roll in displacing products that are more wholesome, like pine, with their lab made dangerous chemical ingredients that serve the purpose but are cheap to make and bring a better profit. Maybe good business for them but it's hard on us as living things that want to remain healthy.

@PalmettoPrepared
@PalmettoPrepared 4 ай бұрын
This recipe as I made it is 100g of pine resin 300g of olive oil I lost 15g of weight in bark so the total weight of resin and olive oil combined was 385g. Used 65g of beeswax. The only reason I split it up was because my container size was only so big. If you start with a big enough container in the double boiler, you won't have to split it

The needles, your location, and bark are the best ways. Long leaf and short leaf are easy to tell because of the length of the needles. Loblolly is easy to tell because of the wood color and needles as well.
