How to purify pine resin & make a salve.
Pine resin is used for many things and salve's have been made out of it for thousands of years.
Here I show you how to simpily purify the resin collected and turn it into a salve for a multitude of uses.
I've added some pin tar into this mix as it is well known for its antiseptic properties.

Overheating stright on metal pan causing degradation of bio elements in resin. It is better to use at the beginning in double boiler ( glass jar 😊on rag inside boiling water) and put liquid resin over the seeve or wire strainer after about 1hour of simmering. If you add coconut oil or other oil ex. Jojoba or avocado oil into it before straining you get concentrate resin. Proportion of oil to resin could be even 4:1 or up to 10 parts of oil to 1 part of resin. Pine and spruces resin has strong fragrance. Humans used resin to heal wounds, smoothed up skin, diminish wrinkles and remove some strange growth from skin. Concentrate of resin can be easy mixed with glicerine to form solid creams and use them same way as concentrate resin. Liquid concentrate is easy to transport in closed glass jars.

This works well in a slow casserole cooker at low setting - it is not fast [think 24 hours or more] but you do not burn or degrade the resin and with a fine cloth in the sieve, a very clean product

Excellent! I've got some old pine resin (using it for glue) and was wondering how to purify it. Leaving it on the stick would be great for transporting and working with it. Is the pine tar added for medicinal purposes that pine resin doesn't address? And without the lard, do you think the combination could also be used as glue? I see wonderful pine resin in abundance when I go into Sequoia National Park here in California. But pine tar? I'll have to look more closely next time. I've been aware of its properties nearly all my life -- pine tar soap, pine tar shampoo. I've got to smack myself on the head for not thinking of this earlier. There are SO many practical uses of the pine tree. It has incredible medicinal properties as well. You've motivated me to revisit this subject. Thanks!

Pine tar is added for medicinal purposes and the lard to make it pliable. If you want to make it into glue. The best thing is to add dry animal dung ( from a herbivore) like rabbit / deer and a little ash as this helps to bond the glue.

Yes, it needs to be mixed with something fibrous like rabbit dung and a bit of charcoal.
