I do want an official Astrology guide. A set of stars that represent something, and it is used to define the being in the world. So, what if there are a group of star wizards and mages who can travel using the stars. Travelling from one planet to another using two similar constellations from the two worlds that have the same meaning. Creating magic and weapons only people borned under one of the constellation can use it.

I make it available for players who don't already get enough crunch from my GURPS game. I start the calendar at 1995 and use old Astro calendars or the internet. You must track days. My world is hyper detailed and some adventure sites will only do certain things when the starts are aligned just so ( usually just seasonal and or lunar ). Spell casters who have opted to align themselves with the stars can get extra points for certain spells ( fireball during the Lion's Month even and better if it's the Summer Solstice ). Baking this kind of thing in has the added benefit of forcing me to keep accurate time records which means that Celebration Days happen at their appointed time and not just when I or a module wants to make a festive part of the story. This makes the world seem more real. Because it is.

Well considering what Astrology covers is basically Divination; it could, and should, have a great many variants and rules depending on the part of the world each tradition is drawn from. And not to mention all the significance of Astrology in religious traditions. The messages from the gods should be written in the stars.
@MrBendylaw2 ай бұрын
Always wondered about this. How do you read the stars once you've realized they're sky-aquariums? That you are in a similar fishbowl? That Atropus is hanging out up there, and might actually be aware of you? Or the stars might descend and turn into a deity or something. I expect your Toriil astrologers are a particularly dodgy breed, probably close to a half-crazy hedge-wizards, especially considering that individual 'stars' might be talking directly to them! Any court astrologers would need to be dealt with using extreme caution/truesight/detect whatever magic!
@AJPickett2 ай бұрын
Well that's a great question, since in original Spelljammer lore the Sun was eaten by Dendar and is now replaced with an artificial star, so the ancient prophesy was right... the inside of the Sphere of Realmspace has gigantic statues holding aloft great flaming braziers which appear like stars down on the planets far away ( and I mean FAR away, the same distance as the furtherest planet from the star, from that planet to the great sphere is that same distance), also, all the surface of the Sphere is covered in the inscriptions of SPELLS... nobody knows who made the spheres and the sphere of Realmspace is quite weird compared to most. In modern D&D, there is no sphere, the prime material worlds are essentially demiplanes drifting in the Deep Ethereal, connected to the inner planes and and the border ethereal, the outer planes are linked via the Astral Plane... if I catch ANYONE flying a spelljammer through the Astral plane I will drop an SWARM of Astral Dreadnoughts on them faster than they can shout "OH FUCK."

If you can ask the gods for signs and explanations and they actually respond, there's not much reason to develop astrology to divine the future and the wills of the gods.
@AJPickett2 ай бұрын
The gods are notorious for their lack of giving people answers, but you have a good point. Most of Astrology is NOT about predicting the future, its about identifying the nature and influences on a thing.
@HenriFaust2 ай бұрын
That might work for clerics, but what about everyone else? Besides, most priests have to spend their spell slots on more immediate concerns, like healing and combat magic. Worse, if a priest asks the wrong question, he might annoy their deity and face reprimands or find out that which was not meant to be known by mortal minds and go insane. Asking the gods for answers is not a trivial thing when they actually respond!
