Minor note: Maybe I'm wrong, but as I understand it, District 1-10 is the area the city took up when the guild pact was signed 10 thousand years ago. Back then, not everything was covered in buildings, but as the city spread, new districts were added. Nowadays, they are numberless and unimaginably diverse.

Discovered the channel a week ago. Been devouring these videos, with my preference shifting to the story driven ones, like those that follow a particular's character path or recount an event. The others are good too, like 6/10, but I find my mind drifting away and end up having to backtrack on the video. The music doesn't always fit certain bits of the stories, with "epic" grandiose tracks being played when nothing of the sort is happening, but that's fine too. Overall, this channel as been a pleasant surprise, thank you for all the work.

A good overview into one of my favorite planes in MTG. Personally, I would love to see WOTC explore stories that take place elsewhere on the plane, other than the 10th district. A question, though: Is it really stated in canon that Azor is from Ravnica? Memory serving, Azor had been hopping from plane to plane establishing constitutions, structures, and laws until he got trapped on Ixalan; I don't recall that it was ever explicitly stated that Ravnica was his home plane.
@prestonjudd7663 Жыл бұрын
As a quick note, Azor wasn’t native to Ravnica. In one of the novellas for RTR block the bailiff mentions as such.

Ravnica is one of my favorite planes and was one of the two planes that got me into MTG. (the other being Innistrad) I think what really helps this plane stand out apart from the guilds is the land cards, the designers couldn't do the standard mold so each color gets to reflect the city in unique ways not typically seen on other planes.

Those of us in the Dice Try discord have been talking about Ravnica quite a bit lately, specifically how there are apparently enough guildless to outnumber the guilds but we only have like 3 cards in the more recent sets that represent them. Furthermore, some guilds like Selesnya have D E E P history that gives a totally different idea of the guild from what we usually see. According to the wiki, "Despite their appearance of being "good" and "peace-loving", in truth the guild has a sinister streak. The Conclave used to employ its "Quietmen" and other members to silence the civilians of Ravnica... During the events of Agents of Artifice, the Selesnya were lynched en masse due to the citizens realising their role in forcing the oppression of the guilds." Sidenote: I, personally, definitely prefer the old vision of Ravnica, where the people were so diverse you couldn't always tell what guild someone was from. "Guilds of" and onward were more of a "greatest hits" experience, imo. The Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica book, thankfully, seems to go back to a lot of that.

I am so hopeful that Ravnica will become a 4-color faction set. With most guilds shattered or missing, and the plane largely deconstructed, I think it may be an opportunity for the nephilim-colored factions to form!
@laszlokaszas1003 Жыл бұрын
I sadly remind people that the Simic guild was literally wiped out in the first block's story, but was totally functional in Return to Ravnica
@g2poodlehead Жыл бұрын
@@laszlokaszas1003 True. My thinking is not necessarily that the idea of the guilds is gone, but moreso that what remains of each guild may align itself with a fragment of another guild, should there be a paradigm shift on the plane. An example being Golgari remnants, now brought to the surface, may realize that aligning with the Boros is beneficial for protection and the Boros recognizing that being able to revive their ranks is essential / Radicalized and desperate Selesnya warriors realizing that they don't mind a little more bloodshed than they did previously, while some Rakdos members start to gain an appreciation for construction and not just it's opposite. Both of these combos would create a RBGW "guild" which touches upon previous themes but injects some flavorful nuance into its individual parts. I think a former Rakdos carnie growing some beautiful but deadly carnivorous plants, or a Boros quartermaster dabbling with necromancy to keep their troops refreshed would be thematic of their histories but colorfully diverse as well
@TheSwordsman100 Жыл бұрын
@@g2poodlehead I honestly would hate the idea as proposed as Boros is my favorite guild because of that paladin flavor, mixing the guilds with the other guilds they would fundamentally oppose normally would just dilute and get rid of what made each special IMO. Though I guess it could still work if instead of the contrasting elements coming together it was the ones with similarities. For example Boros, Selesnya and Azourias united via their shared connection through white. (So WRGU instead of RBGW)
@g2poodlehead Жыл бұрын
@@TheSwordsman100 oh absolutely, I totally get that idea too! Yeah I defaulted to the extremes for sure, but I think it can be done with any two guilds, but I hadn't even thought about three guilds combining to accomplish the same effect. They all have some fundamental differences and would have to concede some aspects, but I think it could be a possible way to maintain some nostalgic flavor and simultaneously change up the formula!
