Interesting to note: aparrently, Aarakocra die at about age 30. So the wise bird sage that gives you advice might be younger than even the humans in the party.

The wind Dukes of Aqaa seems like a mix between djinn and storm giants. Do they have any relation to either of them?

Nope, Vaati are a air elemental race of their own, and are quite distinct from them by being innately Lawful.

Much as I like my bird people, I kinda wish they'd bring back the Raptorlings of 3.5. Thought they were interesting, and while I know age isn't an important stat or anything, I much prefer a race of birdmen who can stick around ffg or a while.

I absolutely think that old quadrupedal Aarakocra were cooler than the borning bird-humanoid design 5e goes with. Yes, they also looked like silly parrot-people, but in Dark Sun they looked vultrue-like, and on general note, Warcraft's high arakkoa, clearly inspired by the old design, show that it can too be made cool. Humanoid with wings is just too safe, and loses on cool bits like using feet as hands in combat when flying.
