Up until 1980 I had the boss version. 302 and 3 on the floor. It was a 72 and by 1980 it was completely a rust basket case. So bad I'm not even sure it could have been restored at that time.

I like these. They are basically the same car as a '65 Mustang with frumpy styling to prevent stealing sales from the then current Mustang ( they still stole many sales from Mustang )

I’ve owned Mavericks since the mid 80’s, watching someone else fight with one, and knowing exactly how every little part you touch, fits together, is somewhat entertaining. You brought the maverick back from the brink of death, to see it do donuts in the farmfield was so incredible!!!This survivor Ford deserves a totally new life, new brakes, new headlights, new front clip, rechromed bumpers, total engine rebuild, new paint, new interior, mag wheels, traction bars, all jacked up, glass packs, oil change, drag strip, or car show. This old girl is a total time bomb, sleeper, that will do burnouts and at the same time go 140MPH down the highway.This car needs some summer lovin' perfect for daily driver, or a cruise in. Going to the A&W, McDonalds, or Pizza Hut, and hanging out with best friends, hitting the local drive in, going to shoot pool, or hearing the local band at the bar......

"Northerner cold" = January 1996. My grandfather's funeral procession was that morning. I was supposed to be in it, in my own car. 1975 Ford Gran Torino, a much biger brother of that Maverick. That was the morning my starter decided to quit. It was 12 degrees F. I walked to an auto parts store and bought a remanufactured starter.. Walked home carrying it. Got under the car, reached for the starter, and as my hands touched the metal, they froze to it. Went in the house, got a hair dryer and rubber gloves, tried it again. It took 2 1/2 hours to change the starter out, but I was in that funeral, dammit. That's "Northerner cold". (I live in Massachusetts). Keep up the good work Dylan, anyone who keeps these old rigs going is a someone I respect.

I bought a 73 Ford Maverick when I was 21, it was already 10 yrs old but I loved it! My brother put big mag tires on the rear and gave it a little lift, mine was a gold bronze color and I truly wished I still had it 😀😊

My best friend Bertie..loved her maverick. She talked about it all the time. Bertie was a number of years older than me but she was my best friend, my grandma, an aunt, a sister. she was everything to me. I hope u get this thing running in her memory. im pretty sure you can get disk brakes conversion kits for replacing front drums for 2 doors maverick.

You should try out "deep creep" by sea foam. It is the best penetrant I've ever used. I've had header nuts and exhaust bolts that were seized so bad I I was afraid to break things torquing on them. Soaked them down, let it set a little bit and they came off like they were never rusted. Project farm did a test of penetrants and it came out on top.

I recently got a 1965 buick special running after it sat since 1995. All i had to do was put some points in it and it started. Had to hook a temporary fuel line to get it to move. That maverick is neat by the way!

I live in Az and bought a mercury comet w/ intentions of rebuilding it, paid 800 and drove off the lot decent, slowly rebuild, new valve seals, valves push rods,gaskets, carb rebuild,rad etc... only thing thats been my holdback is my rack pinion, rust repairs & trans I'm needing to rebuild an held off. Seeing this truly shows classic american ford engines durability through the years an seasons. Pursue your dream till its content, may your repair jobs be easy on the wallet🙏😂

Love this! Went through the same ordeal with my 71 Maverick that sat for a little over 20 years! Mine was originally an inline 6 and swapped with a 302 sometime before the 90's.

I did that same swap back in 1982. 72' rusted out Maverick w/302 auto, dropped into 72' Comet with with a thrown rod in the inline 6. My friend Rob nicknamed it the "Mavet".

My dad had one for a work vehicle. He sold it to my friends older brother. Fixed up a junkyard engine for it, and the bodywork, then raced the hell out of that thing. Still don't think it was faster than my dads 1970 SS 396 Chevelle he used to have. I think it was a 4 speed manual. Loved all of those old cars, including AMC. love to see them get back on the road. You shouldn't have given away that you got the car running so fast, I wanted to be surprised. LOL. But thanks for keeping them alive.

I live in South Florida and I have become reliant on creature comforts. You would not see me anywhere near that Maverick in that weather without an Easy-Up canopy for the rain, Milwaukee cordless tools, and a small portable propane heater. I am a big baby, I confess.

That 4 way lug wrench on rusty Ford lug nuts in the snow brings back a lot of bad memories. My first car was a '67 Torino. 3 speed on the column, (it was hard to back up a car with a clutch in those days, especially if the clutch and pressure plate were shot). I drove it to high school, we'd stop at the liquor store every morning and get a quart of beer, took the edge off before class.

@@laceylouloulou I hadn't seen a 4 way lug wrench for about 30 years until my brother in law bought one at a yard sale about a month ago. We had a flat tire a while back and the single arm lug wrench on my dad's Ford Escape wouldn't even fit the lugs. They had some kind of metal cap that smashed and twisted off when I tried to the get the lugs off. It was a muss, but I finally got them off, some things about Fords ain't changed one bit.

Your videos on this remind me of my first car so much. I found a 6 cyl ‘69 Mustang in a barn when I was a kid. Bought it with my paper rout $$ for $400. It was in a lot better shape than this Maverick. The mechanics on these 2 cars is almost identical. The Stang was a lot cleaner than this but it was all disassembled. It took me 3 years (no $$) to fix everything, re-assemble, an get it running. I loved that car and drove it for 7 years. Wish I still had it.

If you clock the cooling fan 90 degrees it might fit flat on the radiator,....Also the original radiator can be soldered at the leaky fins. Bend the fins over at the ends and solder them.

Out of everything you have done on your channel, this is the one car I really want to see you fix up. I miss my 302 maverick coupe. It was turd brown and could one wheel peel half way down the block without touching the brake. Very fun and often overlooked, the mavericks make great hotrod projects.

First off I'd drag the car to solid ground, 2nd I'd put up a canopy big enough to cover the car plus give me working room and put some sides up and 3rd I'd put some kind of heater to heat my work area up for working outside in the cold, snow or rain. Why don't you invest in some cordless impacts? Beats trying to fight things by hand. Plus when trying to brake the drums loss use a 4 lbs hammer

Reminds me of my 75 LeMans Sport Coupe. Accelerator cable snapped while on the road. Strung it through the hood and window and made it to the shop. Also, my first car was a light blue 74 Maverick 4-door (I know). I bought it after HS graduation in 77 and immediately got a metallic navy blue Earl Scheib paint job. Anyway, keep us posted. I'd like to see the finished product!

Hey I’ve had at least one two of those types that you feel like it’s just not going right.. warm weather and sunny days will help with a challenge like that. I had a 65 Mustang and one winter that I did brakes, rear end and Ujoints all outside in cold, damp conditions. Just raw. But it came around when it warmed up and things got together. Don’t give up just take a breather and find the little victories buddy! Good luck keep them coming.

Love the video and gotta say i hate the cold just got done doing ignition lock and door locks speakers and of course i saved the heater core for the last all in about a 1 foot and a half of snow kept slipping off my wheels and bashing my chest on the fender in my 81 f150
