Well done. I picked up an '81 in Baton Rouge, LA a few years ago and had to pull it up on the trailer with two ratchet straps and a harbor freight come-along by myself. Never again. You made that look easy. Love your channel, man.

I know the feeling, I drove 4 hours to Toledo for the uhaul, then on to Detroit, to shovel out and come-along load a 55 coupe de ville. It just fit on the car hauler....it was in Mid february....then drive 5 hours home.. long day....my 85 vanagon, AAA, and the 87 syncro, hired a private guy....I did get smarter...honest

I just got an 85 westy. It had no key. I pulled the ignition switch out. Problem solved. Oops, forgot the come along. Had the lady park her 90' ish Toyota minivan next to the front of the trailer, ran a rope from her bumper through the trailer, across the deck to the front of the vanagon. Had her back up. Lol. I was skeptical but that was the little Toyota tht could, and did. Needless to say it's now sitting in my yard. A good cleaning, a new ignition tumbler with a key, battery, good tune up, shes down the road. All I did was clean the whole thing, put a battery in it and stuck a screwdriver in the ignition switch and cranked it about a dozen times. It fired right up. It had been sitting for a decade at least. I wont even tell you how much, or little I paid for it. Cheers

I was afraid that thing would just start rolling down the driveway and either take out the AC condenser or the gate! Glad you were able to manage. Amazing how many Vanagons exist out your way...I've seen maybe 3 in the last 10 years here in NY. One was in a junkyard, one was all rusted out in somebody's driveway, and one was actually driving and in reasonably decent shape. I still think one would be a fun daily driver but the prices on these things are getting crazy...
@Volkswear4 жыл бұрын
Ya this one started to roll a little better the farther down the driveway I pushed it. Getting my big trailer into some of these neighborhoods is a little tricky. JC.

none in junkyards here, where in NY ? Upstate ? I still have friends that live there, I left WNY 20 years ago...rust sucks
@@DanTheManIOM Naw, was an old shop out in the boonies. owner died, my coworker knew him, asked me to go out there and see if any of the ~150 junkers out back were any good. There was a Vanagon there up to its sills in mud and stuffed full of old auto parts. Several cool cars out there but nothing salvageable...estate executor sent everything to the crusher. :(

Slightly pissy that no one helped you. The body looks pretty good though, there's a lot worse out there. Edit: just saw it's getting a Subaru treatment. That's a shame.
