Very nice restoration - so many nice components including checking for lead and having a fume hood for spray painting (safety first!). I was wondering, is there a crack in the cast iron at 8:09 in one of the bolt holes? I couldn't tell, but I know those are tricky to braze (well, based on other channels). Great video!! 👍

The earplug-in-the-hole trick is a tip I’ve given on so many of these restoration channels that I don’t remember who all I’ve told it to. If you heard it from me, I’m glad you’ve found it useful. If you _didn’t_ hear it from me… well, I’m *STILL* glad you’ve found it useful! Good restoration! The laser etched faceplate turned out very nice!

Nicely done! Did you coat the laser engraved scale with a clear lacquer? Also, would the depth of the laser engraving permit adding color to the scale?
@ForgottenShineRestoration5 ай бұрын
Thanks, no I didn't put any varnish on it. Since the surface was already rough, I didn't dare put powder on it, otherwise everything might be colored and I didn't want that... 🐢

At this point, you've gained most of the skills needed to direct a small budget movie : ) It would be really cool to know where you are finding the things you rebuild, also how do you know all of the effort put into something is going to return something worth that effort? I mean, some of the things you fix are so covered in rust, how do you know that's good material underneath of it?
@ForgottenShineRestorationАй бұрын
Thank you very much! These are really a lot of very good questions... I usually buy these items online, for example on eBay. Of course, I never know if the restoration will be successful, which is why I am always very nervous at the end of the restoration whether everything will look good again in the end... 🐢

Чувак, весы - это точный измерительный инструмент. В данном случае никакая реставрация не вернёт их к полноценной функциональности! После реставрации они лишь выглядят как новые, но годятся лишь как декоративные, для музея.

Yeah, but would the painting have been perfect on an original unit? Probably not, so you made it look authentic. Painting freehand is not easy. Take it from a model builder. it takes quite a while and a lot of practice to get really good.
