Using the throttle, or "joystick" to brake is called plugging. It stops the lift electronically. It is the proper way to stop. The deadman is for emergency braking ONLY.

Braking instructions was completely wrong 😂 the deadman pedal is for emergency braking only or used as a parking brake. Coming off the pedal just to slow down does nothing but break things. To correctly slow down you "plug" to a stop which is when you push the control handle in the opposite direction of travel to slow and stop. Only come off the deadman for emergencies or when your exiting the truck.
@hakeemsd70m Жыл бұрын
That's how I was taught to brake on both a Crown electric walkie rider pallet jack and a Raymond reach truck, by using plugging. These Raymond reach trucks are fine machines.

As a trainer too, to clarify the "Deadman" petal is comparable to the emergency break on the car not a regular break. It's actually not good for the machine to use the Deadman as a regular break. Like he also demonstrates in the video just pull the handle in the opposite direction for a regular break. If you are about to hit something or someone, THEN step off the petal to stop immediately (thus emergency break). Everything else in the video is a great explanation! Good job!
@6.boojahideen.98415 күн бұрын

I had to come watch this video because when I started my job 4 years ago I lied and was assigned this exact vehicle. I watched a video 30 mins before and went in learning from other people . All I gotta say is if this is you now , just take it nice and easy don’t try to be perfect . Cause now I’m a super master at it and I know other masters who take it easier then I do still . So no shame in taking it slow , remember the joystick movement cause things can fall while you picking them up , go up slow if you don’t like the grab you got put it down and grab it again . I tell you when you master this thing it’s gone feel so good man, idk for me I was helping other dudes who was faking it and I could tell but I’m like this ain’t none hard to learn big dog just watch me . Some dudes get arrogant and start yelling for everything when they get mastered at this truck , I mean acting like they the best in the land, try not to be this guy . P.s: try not to drag your forks on the ground when moving, don’t ram nothing cause the forks can curl I’ve seen it and it’s very expensive just for forks. Checklist is important cause you just might have a bad machine, or a common problem was bad battery. Don’t drive with the forks first if your not picking none up , my warehouse violated ppl for that. Obey the yellow lines , AND DONT HIT NO F****** BODY MAKE THIS TOP PRIORITY .

Good vid! Few good tips, keep the forks down when turning and once you are aligned with the pallets then raise it up that way you are swinging them every and possibly hitting pallets of merchandise. Another one is once alligned and inside the pallet lift up slowly and tilt the whole crane thing back a little. Not the forks but the whole thing. That way it is in an angle and can also not scrape against the rack and damaging anything. But overall good vid. I noticed even with the standup forklifts there are different makes. I’m used to the stand up crown version

Interesting that so many people say to never use the pedal as regular brakes. Must be a brand thing. Crown specifically points it out as a valid (and sometimes even recommended) way to slow down/stop. Then again, there you have basically half of the floor as the pedal, so you get much more control over it. Annoyingly, you can either motor-stop or pedal-stop, but not both together. It disables the drive motors as soon as you let off the pedal.
@americanhero8606 Жыл бұрын
Its a safety thing. Once you lift off the deadman pedal, the truck (and any heavy load it's carrying) will immediately go to a halt. You don't want that when you're carrying a heavy cargo load, it's unsafe. Use your reverse acceleration to slow to a stop.
@z-man5202 Жыл бұрын
@@americanhero8606 glad you pointed that out I usually have a double stack of plastic pallets that lock into each other, that whole reverse acceleration thing you were talking about is called plugging
