Had Georgia, who went undefeated in the regular season and played for the national title, on the ropes in Athens before falling 17-14.

See, even the great Steve Young thinks LES should be bigger!!! Okay, I know this sounds ambitious, but hear me out: Instead of expanding up, expand down. I propose we sink LES down, right where it is, 100 feet or so, and then build the stands back up to their current height, so that entering at ground level puts you at the concourse dividing tiers 1 and 2. Fans would then walk downhill to tier 1 or uphil to tier 2. Fill in the corners. Make one shapely and smooth bowl shape, like the Rose Bowl. Plan its accoustics to be as loud as possible. Plan seating for 100,000 fans minimum. Or reach for the stars and build the largest stadium in North America (120,000 should do it) or the whole world (125,000 if I remember right). Remember, the Olympics are coming. And potentially future bowl games and other events. The extra seats will also reduce the price per ticket for fans, and make bringing the whole family to the game possible again. And having two or even four students sections that can share their enthusiasm and compete with eachother from opposite ends of the stadium would be possible. Expanding down will allow for expanded seating without needing terraces, without having views of the game blocked by terrace support posts, and without blocking the all important views of the mountains. Infact, more people than ever will be able to see the mountains from inside the lowered footprint of the stadium. There will be no bad seats, but there will be enough seats to have cheap seats. Under the stands, build a concourse like an airport, with huge bathrooms, local restaurants, and shops. Have a bakery making cougartails and a creamery churning ice-cream right there in the stadium, with huge windows so kids can marvel at how their favorite treats are made. Have only local restaurants, no big chain restaurants. And have options that can be prepared beforehand, like cups of ice cream or pretzels, in walls of vending machines that can be accessed directly by customers rather than having to wait in long lines. Among the shops, have a BYU Bookstore to sell BYU gear, as well as other fan shops like Royal Army. And have a litteral Hall of Fame, where the history of BYU football can be displayed, with photos, plaques, trophies, statues, etc. And underground, at field level have the team locker rooms, secure from prying eyes and adoring fans, complete with underground parking for team busses and team member's vehicles. And separately, many levels of underground fan parking, freeing up the West Lot for a park like Ole Miss's Grove for tailgaiting. And if you feel really ambitious, model the stadium after the Salt Lake Temple, with three grouped spires at the north and south ends, and possible identical but smaller groupings at the east and west centers, and more smaller individual spires spaced evenly around the perimiter, giving the whole stadium the appearance of a neogothic-meets-art-nouveau crown. In white granite, with blue tined windows, of course. What do you guys think. Can we change Tom Holmoe's mind? What about fundraising? Would you all be willing to chip in a little for a new, huge, state of the art palace of football for the ages?

Jim McMahon and. NOT going undefeated in 1980: preseason Jim was being himself and predicting his Heisman. 1st game of the season, it came too a head at New Mexico, and the were points where his offensive line was fed up - and literally stood aside after the snap, pretty much saying "OK, Mr. Heisman pretty boy. Go ahead: win it. And BYU loses 22-20.

Sorry Steve but your six interceptions against Georgia had more to do with the three point loss than any fourth and one ball placement by a ref.............

So when Steve Young said “I threw 5 or 6 interceptions, it was a disaster!” How is what you said different?

The truly remarkable thing was having that many turnovers and the game still being a toss up. Such a fun game to watch, with Steve Young and Herschel Walker, and of course Tom Holmoe's pick six.
