This is a horrible, dangerous and stupid idea to take police out of the schools of one of the most dangerous cities in America. Do they not realize that youth are some of the main ones doing a lot of these violent crimes? Chicago may want to take notes from Denver Public Schools of when they took police out of the schools, two administrators were shot. Denver Mayor actually confessed after the shooting that taking police out of the schools was the worst ideas. That’s one of the reasons I stopped teaching after COVID because they took the police out of schools so I quit. I taught high school and I had 3 students who were freshmen that had ankle monitors and we had cops in the school that dealt with these students and to keep down the gangs and fights in the school. Chicago is about to become a literal 3rd world country that’s going to be worse than Haiti.

Here, in California, all public school funding is on a per pupil basis. Every student is allocated the exact same amount, whether in the poorest district, or the most wealthy. This drives the wealthy districts crazy, like Beverly Hills, where there is an on campus producing oil well, that provides it's revenue to the school. Except that it doesn't !!! Those funds go into the total educational fund pot, where every one gets the same share, no matter how much that district contributes !!! Taft, Ca. is probably one of the poorest cities in California, as far as education for students goes. It is isolated, a back water of mostly poor White families, and lots of Brown children, mostly of migrant farm workers. Yet, it sits on an ocean of oil, that the oil producers pay millions of dollars in taxes every year, for the rights to drill for oil. Still, each student receives, the same funding, as a student in the , most wealthy cities gets. Cities, like San Francisco, who have almost no tax base, because of loss of business, due to crime and social breakdown. Yet they share equally with the producers of the most tax revenue. The problem comes in teacher recruitment. Very few qualified, excellent teachers will work in Taft, because it is a " Hick " town, with no culture, or social life. What young teacher wanting to start a career, and a family, would want to live in an area, where finding a mate is almost impossible ??? Yet the Bay area, is awash with culture, and a vibrant night life. Where do you think the best and brightest teacher want to stay ??? When teachers are not paid equally. Look at the pay scales in different school district across the state. Costal Los Angles cities have very high teacher salaries, yet inland, in Palmdale, and Lancaster, salaries are a fraction of that paid on the coast. So, really where would you prefer to work, on the sunny coast, with all the cultural assets in the world, and a better rate of pay, or 90 miles inland in a stinking desert, where it is cold in winter, and blazing hot in summer, and the wind blows fiercely all the time, and there is minimal social life, and poor pay ??? Chicago is a blighted city, run by a corrupt government, that has destroyed it's culture and businesses tax base, by allowing lawlessness in all quarters, especially in the public schools. I wouldn't teach there for a million dollars a year. ( School year is about 180 - 182 days per year, depending upon contract ) Money is not the answer !!! A safe secure community with a high quality social life, and cultural attractions, is what people want in a community where they live, work, and rear their children. Chicago, now has none of that. This once great ( Second City ) has degenerated into a criminalized minority hell hole, where the Black Minority/Majority, has destroyed the city with political corruption, and unchecked crime of all kinds. Assaults' on teachers is at an all time high, and embezzlement of school funds by an all Black school board, is so pervasive, that it won't even allow a proper financial audit of it's books !!! Unfortunately, most big cities with minority hiring practices, have fallen victim to the very people they pretended to be helping. Corruption knows no racial barriers. Incompetent and corrupt Black people have worked their way into these governments, and the results are clear for all to see. Ignorant, illiterate Black voters, voted along racial lines, ( Tribalism ) thinking they could trust these folks. No matter how they fail, and how corrupt they have become, corrupt Black candidates continue to be elected/reelected to government offices, where they dictate the lives of the ignorant and illiterate masses, who believe in " Systemic Racism ". Yet whose government elected officers are all BLACK !!! Corruption is overlooked, because the White man is to blame, slavery is to blame, yet irresponsible behavior, and corruption is overlooked. Black people, can not admit that it is Black people that have sold them into slavery once again, for their own personal greed !!! Corrupt run Black school boards, make sure that their citizens remain illiterate, and pumped up with hatred against not just White folks, but against any person or group that is successful !!! When Black African immigrants succeed n business and life, they are quickly dismissed by Black Americans, as " Being Too White !!! ) DEI ( Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ) is only retarding the process of education, and promoting separatism, and racial divide. Here, in the real world, the school budget is based on the taxes from property. Given the lower property values in urban settings, you would think they would have less money per student but the actual amount per student in urban districts in my state has urban districts spending roughly double per student than the suburban districts and between 3 to 4 times what rural districts spend per student. The urban district nearest me was taken over by the state because the graduation rate was under 40% while the lowest rate for a suburban or rural district was 93%, even with half the money. Clearly, money has never been the issue in urban schools, but the culture and value on education is what determines if the students succeed or not.

Once again another decision has been made without the input of those who DIRECTLY deal with the issues. What were the responses or input from the deans, security officers, student advocates, mentors, counselors? Those that directly deal with the student safety/security/behavior issues of the entire school body? Did anyone consult with the above mentioned on the current state of safety in each school? Staff members who still work in the school system say that fighting and other discipline issues are happening daily in the building and outside of the building...and the response is to remove officers from every school? I hope they've planned for this.

Nothing can be accomplished without basic security. Maslov priority of needs is valid. Educators should not have a bigger role than educating. Educating the students is enough. Additional resources, psychologists, social services, and law enforcement are needed for this wholistic approach.
