My mom was unconscious for about 2-3 months around January after a surgery. She woke up with a very DEEP wound underneath her left forearm and on her waist. Not a single staff member knew until she woke up from unconsciousness. The story I got is that nobody moved her during her unconsciousness which caused wounds to fester in those areas. I had to rechange her bandages and put a special cream on to it that smelt like mangoes. It looked painful but she constantly told me it wasn’t. She is still in the process of a lawsuit I think.

This is a glaring example of something I realized years ago working in a social services capacity. People might assume that any individuals that go into a field like social services or the medical profession genuinely care about people. However, it is the exact opposite. The vast majority of the people in those fields only care about numbers. Especially those in management positions. It's all about the numbers and that's it. Patients and clients be damned!!!!

There is no amount of money that could ever persuade me to work at any facility that openly encourages a patient to nurse ratio of 11:1. Not only is it nearly impossible to provide safe care to the patients, but that unsafe patient to nurse ratio would automatically jeopardize my nursing license. The hospital was clearly aware of how unsafe the conditions were. This should be classified as sentinel event of which should hopefully prompt DMC to provide better patient to nurse ratio’s + better compensation in the future. I hope she carried liability insurance while on that job.

She may very well see money! The whole idea of suing people is that they have to pay financial damages for whatever wrongs they’ve done. It was wrong for them to fire her.
