One option is deny Russia any use of the sea for anything include commercial. We largely look away as commercial ships transport oil to India and China, in fact we largely protect the sea for "everyone" to use for trade. I think Russia would be denied that. ... No more commercial shipping for anything. Also, I don't think anyone except maybe North Korea would want to trade with a Russia that has used nuclear weapons against Ukraine. If China or India for some reason continued, I think all the other countries of the world could easily be convinced to join secondary sanctions of any country trading anything with Russia.

It's very interesting he speaks about a conventional response to a nuke from russia. Putin has lost his best tank brigade, the one he'd parade and is supposed to protect the Kremlin, very early in their invasion. A conventional military take out by the US, NATO, etc. would be relatively easy, since the brave Ukrainans have basically won, it's just a matter of time. UA have some genius PR moves like having a nice price list for equipment like tanks, BMPs, helicopters, etc. and a guarantee of being treated well, if they surrender. Couple this with the fact that the corruption within the russian military means they can't even give their conscripts uniforms.

You don't understand that a lot of Russians are prepared to die for Crimea and The Donbas. Like a lot of Amerikans are prepares to die for Florida. The question that you should ask yourself is whether you are also prepared to die for these regions? The stakes are simply much higher for the Russians. So you better not get into a fight with them over this.

These type of what if interviews are becoming tiresome. Nobody knows, or would reveal what they would do if they get punched on the nose. There a spectrum of responses. The interviewers might as well answer these questions themselves instead of passing the voice to retired military personnel to speculate.

Though I believe there are options other than a nuclear response, the fear or the use of more nuclear weapons would cause either Russia, or any other countries would cause them to respond. Any county unafraid to use nuclear weapons would be seen as an extreme threat, and untrustworthy. It would be difficult then to deescalate the situation from nuclear, therefore any use can likely lead to nuclear war, and the end of the world.

@Anonymous-ld7je
@Anonymous-ld7je Жыл бұрын
He won't have much an army, navy, or airforce left to respond with. He could finally accept defeat and make peace with Ukraine, or he could try to destroy earth in a nuclear armageddon... over Ukraine. It's a binary choice. And I'm not discounting the possibility of choice #2, I just see it as less likely than a peace treaty. The Soviet union knew when further fighting in Afghanistan was pointless. Maybe he'd realize the total destruction of Russia in a nuclear exchange isn't worth Kherson, Crimea, and the Donbass in Ukraine. Sounds utterly illogical. Putin has been foolish, but I don't think he is incapable of logic... there's also the possibility Putin orders the nuclear strikes then is overthrown by the military. Just because he decides not to care about the survival of Russia, doesn't mean his subordinates will stop caring. Their families will die too. It might finally be the final step too far that the military is not willing to cross for him.
