I live in AZ and we go out often with UTV’s Lake pleasant and crown king . We do a lot of sand wash’s and streams that are typically dry can become raging in minutes. Every time we go out anything can happen. I have many stories….. Last time we went out on our KTM bikes buddy broke his leg in 3 spots 30 minutes into ride. Compound fractures. I had seconds to make decisions. Buddy started going into shock and pass out …… typically no one will be around to help, no one. Out of no we’re guy and wife drive by in jeep and help us. This could have been real bad ….. we did have a spot /sos. Always be prepared! Sold KTM and bought Polaris Razor 😏 put winch on it a few months ago. After watching this I will get winch on Tundra. Thank you Guys!!!!

Swift water rescue...whewwww On the Gauley river ..a raft of 7 , my brother, father, a young couple me and my buddy(his 1st time) were up front. The river was running hot so we were able to surf pillow rock for about 60 seconds...as we rounded and dropped in my buddy got knocked loose, panicked grabbed me and out we went. At the base of pillow are a couple holes...went under I'm guessing 10-15 feet super dark and cold, when i popped up i was heading for an undercut...located the raft about 25 feet away ...made visual with the coolest dude on the planet...MIKE MATHER..our guide that day...he new the danger and his throw bag ..legit slow mo guys...landed on my arm, grabbed it ...saved! If a lesser guide was in that raft, i would be dead. Thanks Mather...you freekin stud!

It really is disturbing how people perceive others in distress. I was brought up to do was to help those who need helping, and protect those who need protecting. But from my experience, people will watch an accident, be it in the workplace, or out in the streets- and their immediate first response is to distance themselves from it so they aren't somehow liable, or they themselves aren't put in any danger. And it really bothers me is that in a lot of situations, the difference between life and death for a lot of these people is those around them 'inconveniencing' themselves to do something-anything to help. Like that video with the woman just standing there holding her bag and watching that (hers or not) child suffocate under a bar...I can't wrap my head around just sitting there and watching the life get choked out of them. Great videos as always, keep this content coming, and keep educating folk on how to be better equipped to assist their fellow man.

When I got my first car when I was 17 my dad gave me a tow strap and a reflective vest to keep in my car for emergency’s and I still have them to this day. It is so important to have recovery equipment with you in your car just in case. No matter what kind of car you drive. It’s better have it and not need it then to need it an lid not have it.

I once read that more people die inside of their car during a flood because the windows are rolled up. Once the water which is a level higher than the car, the pressure on the windows and the doors is so strong that no one can get out.

My immediate family understands why I have a trauma kit in each vehicle and I carry one every day. I have shovels blankets rope ect in my vehicles. All the other family and friends don’t understand why I carry so much stuff. It’s definitely clear for those of us who love life and others. We feel the need to be prepared. What makes us patriots different is we will help anyone who needs it and we don’t hate people for different opinions or beliefs. Love all trust a few and do harm to no one. Nice work as usual.

I used to swim in flood water like that as kid, my father called me mad. But he did teach me one thing, don't try to swim straight to shore, you'll wear yourself out trying. Pick a spot further down stream and slowing aim for that letting current take you. Oh and other good thing to remember, take your shoes off, the bloody things especially when wet will act like anchors dragging you down, making extremely difficult to swim. I learnt that one the hard way when I went water water rafting(mostly brown water paddling) with my high school class. Flipped the boat and was drag into the deep flowing rapids, thankfully I'm a pretty powerful swimmer cause my shoes were serious dragging me down. But I managed to get to the surface and grab the boat. Though it didn't help that another boat passing by slammed into my head! when coming up. Got little concussion from it but stayed conscience and got back into the boat. I then took my shoes off and tied them to the boat.

Being a salmon and steelhead fishing guide for 22 years on Washington’s famed Olympic Peninsula I am trained in swift water rescue and the throw bags are awesome! They save lives !!! I have had to swim for a client once in November of 2013 and let me tell you that water in November takes your breath away. I was fortunate that there was 5 other fishing guides in close proximity to me so when I surfaced with the client there were like 8 guys right there to help me out, I grabbed a fishing landing net that was extended to me and once I could feel the bottom and stand up I handed the client off to guys that were helping, we got the guy out of his wet clothes and into some dry fleece that I carry in my drift boat just for this emergency and they had a fire going in no time to get him warm, I just changed and was fine………._it was the day after thanksgiving 2013 on the Humptulips river at the Bluff hole !

Great info on this channel. I am considering van life in a year or so when I retire. The more I've thought about it, the more things I realize could possibly go wrong, and the more I think about being prepared. I've learned a lot from you guys and, not being one who has embraced the concept of preparedness in the past, I now keep a list of equipment and trainings that I intend to invest in BEFORE my journey begins, as well as strategies that I will implement as part of my way of life. At some point, you may get a message from an old woman saying thanks, you're good work just saved my or someone else's ass. Job #1...learn how to swim. That's one I can work on now.

My little sister and I almost drowned. In Camp Verde the River in AZ. I was sliding down this natural rock slide into the water and she followed me when I got to the shore and look back I noticed she was being sucked under by a Whirlpool underneath the water. I didn't even think I jumped in the water and try to save her but I was only 11 years old and didn't realize how hard it was to swim especially when it's moving. So all I could do was put her above me so she was above the water and I was underneath. I thought I was going to die the next thing I know my mom's boyfriend drove in and got us out of there. There was a lady and her boyfriend there were standing right there filming the whole thing. The lady's camera ended up getting broke my mom.

Cars that have headrests that come off & have a point on the metal bars are designed to break the cars side glass. I would still have a glass breaker handy but in a pinch the headrest can be used.

Reading the book Influence the psychology of persuasion by Robert Cialdini. He says when in a group and you need help, you have to identify one person and ask specifically that person for or to get help. Yelling help in a group, studies shown, most people will ignore the calls because they either don’t want to get involved or think someone else will help. Great book on behavior of people.

Years ago I passed a crashed car on fire on the way to my night shift job. Stopped ran over to car and started trying to get the guy out. Police officer and I finally got subject out before vehicle was entirely engulfed in flame. Unfortunately the subject was already deceased. When I initially pulled up there were like 6 other people just standing around on their phones some large capable looking men... I’ll never forget that. I learned how useless many are people are. I also learned to always keep a fire extinguisher and work gloves in my vehicle.

I think flotation devices for children should be kept in your vehicle if you live in a land with lots of ponds or rivers. Stored within reach of every passenger. Swim rings, swim belts, little boogie boards or empty water bottles tucked under your child's arms would be better than nothing. These videos are good teaching, please keep them coming.

I keep a window breaker and seatbelt cutter Velcroed inside my car so driver or front passenger can reach it. The Velcro will helpfully help it from flying around if the car flips… I figure, even if it is in a closed center console the console could come open and my tools could fly everywhere. Then your f’d if you can’t get your seatbelt off.

I heard that the headrest in your car serves a second purpose besides resting your head. In the event you need to break your window, remove the headrest and use the metal legs to break the window. Supposedly that's what they were designed for.

That LEO was not correct. California Health and Safety Code Section 1799.102: “No person who in good faith, and not for compensation, renders emergency medical or nonmedical care at the scene of an emergency shall be liable for any civil damages resulting from any act or omission.” The law also clarifies that a person cannot be held liable for civil damages unless their actions or omissions constitute “gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct."

If you are trapped in a car and need to break a window remove the headrest. The legs that go down inside are strong metal rods. Use the tips of this to break through the glass.

I know on the subject of "Apathy", a lot of it is awful human beings who will take advantage of a situation. Someone tries to help, then gets in "Trouble" for doing anything at all wrong, or anything else along those lines. Like the guy who stopped to help the girl stranded with a broken car in Australia a couple years ago. He never even touched her but she claimed sexual assault and his entire life was ruined. Even with literal video evidence of the *_entire incident_* nothing went back to normal for that man. Even with all the 'Good Samaritan" laws in the world your life can get ruined trying to be a good person regardless of the outcome, and for a lot of folks these days, well . . .

Lesson for people.. Learn about lever and fulcrum. Also, a small bottle jack is very portable and very effective.. One person can lift thousands of pounds with control. Shim under the load immediately to secure it. If there is a human under a vehicle, I'd be very careful about yanking it with another vehicle. If that person is somehow attached or entangled you could cause far more damage. 😬

The thing that would scare me most about that situation with the UTV is not having any blocking. If that strap slipped on the roll cage or came loose that UTV comes right back down on the kids neck. With the deputy basically being by himself due to the zombie like behavior of the bystander I guess he did not have much choice but to do what he did.

You should also know where your factory jack is on the vehicle. Even if the officer didn't have the strap, the factory jack could be enough to lift the vehicle enough to either retrieve the child or alleviate enough pressure so he can breath. Using anything you have is better then nothing. Good on that officer making snap decisions to solve the problem. That woman was clearly not mentally capable of dealing with crisis, I would recommend some basic 1st aid training atleast.

I think they're criticism of the woman in the situation is a little derpy. I think the reality is that the ATV was trapping the kid, but not strangling the kid. You can tell that the police officer isn't moving in a panicked manner either. So it seems the kid was probably trapped, but stable. "The worst thing you can do is nothing". That is not good advice. Imagine if she tried to flip the ATV, messed up, and it fell back on the kid and crushed his head.

I read a story awhile back where a woman was being attacked on a train. The guy had a knife, was tearing her clothes off to rape her. Another guy intervened and broke the attackers arm. The female went to the attackers hospital room and even tried to get the DA to prosecute her defender. I think stories like these discourages people from getting involved. Though it shouldn’t. Doing what is right is more important than being treated well by someone you help. Even if they don’t appreciate it.

Once when I was younger my friend was driving me around some trails at his uncles farm, when he flipped it we got a good whiff of gas. At that moment I had a huge adrenaline rush and was able to lift the ranger over by myself as a 13 year old boy. Not sure why the lady didn’t even try to push it back wish a child being underneath
