The first video is of a retired Oakland police captain engaged in a fatal shooting during an attempted robbery. The shooting occurred at a Chevron gas station on 10-21-21.
This series serves as an 'after-action report' for the everyday civilian that's looking to learn beyond the flat range.

So if you read the deadliest men by Paul Kirchner, there's a guy named Lance Thomas ( if I remember correctly) who owned a watch shop in California. He successfully defended himself against armed robbers multiple times and was asked why he didn't just turn over his merchandise and maybe the criminals would let him live. His answer was that was leaving the decision up to the criminal.

I'm guessing you live in Brooklyn Park it's gotten insane the amount of shootings there now. Many instances where 30+ shots have been fired in the last 18 months day and night. I stay in St.Paul and we just had a shootout where over 100 shots where fired a couple days ago that didn't even make the news.

Lets take for a moment and all agree the pacing and events that transpired on the second video was REAL fuckin weird in general. From the guy walking to slight jogging, to the randomly pulling a gun from the bush like this is fuckin Fortnite or something to the officer turning around and running away and the guy NOT shooting that officer, to the officer at distance engaging suspect WITH A PENCIL IN HIS HAND, finally to the initial officer having ample time to align the perfect shots.... What a weird rollercoaster of events.

@@williamrunner6718 well, he's right. I'm an African American Marine Corps veteran. I look at situations like this from various different aspects. And although police brutality is an issue in this country. I agree that defunding is a HUGE mistake. People who call out for "defunding the police" are ignorant, uneducated, and naive. If anything, funds need to be INCREASED for tactical training as well as psychological profiling for hiring purposes, amongst others. Training really needs to be incorporated to instill muscle memory in various situations.

I’ve learned a ton from just binging this channel for the past 3 hours (🤯) but I’m not here to comment on your elite knowledge on these situations. I’m commenting on the format at which these “react thingy miggies” videos are done. I would suggest before y’all get into the talking aspect of the action footage y’all are reviewing, is to let the whole action video y’all are looking at play out on full screen before y’all starting commenting and pausing the action footage. Once the unpaused action footage plays out, THEN proceed with pausing and give your thoughts. Hope this makes sense and no disrespect. Your videos have answered a ton of questions this fishing noob has had! Much love from Texas!!

Most people don't understand when deadly force is justified or not, they just think emotionally. Also, in Waukesha our criminal first policy in Milwaukee of releasing violent criminals cause bail is racist caused that tragedy. We've also cut our dept in Milwaukee in half because defund the police and carjackings up 100%, murder about 50 and so on. Love all you do and thanks for the content you all produce!

Any time anyone jumps bail the judge considers that a flight risk and the DA but like you said our POS DA is literally for letting violent criminals out of prison.

3:56 you're severely underestimating how criminals operate. What happens a lot is gangs get some young gang member with little to no criminal history to join Army, Marine Corps, etc to go into the infantry and learn these tactics. Then they come back after their 4 years and teach their little gang members those small unit tactics.

We've seen over the past year that even criminals that are arrested get revolving doored out in public and even before they're tried for the original crime go out and commit next level violence. I think this guy went instinctively into cop mode and was thinking if these guys get away they'll drive a few blocks to the next gas station and do the same thing. If they're willing to brandish and fire the next victim will be killed. Self defense is poorly defined by the law and completely unrealistic. I don't care if guys drive off, who knows if they don't have a fifth guy standing by the store as backup to the driver? You mentioned they used almost a trained tactic, that means they've done this before. My opinion is once someone flashes a gun at you and especially if they discharge they continue to be a threat until arrested or neutralized. Some subjective line of "are they a threat or not" and drawing some 20/20 hinsight scenario as a third person is ridiculous. I spend a lot of time in court rooms dealing where the law tries to draw an objective line in a situation that was fluid, fast and totally subjective.

Yeah, the pen issue was the stress reaction, amazed he was even able to draw with it, I heard a story of someone having a pen and trying to pull the weapon out with a clenched fist, which is why I've always kept the habit of not having anything on my dominant hand until the encounter was somewhat controlled, this was lethal force, but even in a simple DUI people tend to run, fight, etc. so pen and ticket should've ideally not been pulled out until the "problematic" suspect was in handcuffs or after the initial interaction and them gauging the situation (it seems they had an idea he was drunk from the witnesses or other person involved in the accident). Either way, hindsight is 20/20, thanks for the videos.

You never tell someone they are under arrest until you have "hands on them". If you know you are arresting the person, you grab them first and use whatever force necessary to control them 100%. If that means just grabbing the back of their pants and jamming them against the vehicle with a knee between their legs, or slamming them on the ground and getting in a "ground and pound position with their face in the ground. A cop should never have a suspect lose contact after they know an arrest is imminent.

True that 99% of the job is mundane, which is the best excuse for being 100% hyper aware the moment the suspect says ‘No’ to being handcuffed. I think it’s fair to say that guaranteeing the well placed shot is a tenet of winning a gun fight and that is (or should be) stressed at every level of training. Perhaps that is truly a result of ‘falling back on your training’, as basic as that may be in this case. I can say without a doubt the outcome of this encounter was a result more of luck rather than tactics.

26:05 I can safely say I never shot a pistol with a pencil in my shooting hand. My Paintball has a double trigger for faster shooting. Only time I used my middle finger and index to pull the double trigger. I can’t imagine using the middle finger for a real pistol. With the pencil I’m the way I don’t he’s using his index finger to fire
