I love that you said that there is a smart way to help. Years ago I had to help a woman and 2 kids in a way she didn't want. I headed her to more secure help than I could provide when I was traveling and thank G I did. Her abuser showed up in the middle of the night and she was gone and he had no idea I was involved. No one got hurt.

Every person I know who's served overseas in the military....even in times of peace.......returns home and immediately starts preparing....they know what we have is fragile and the alternative is chaos. Additionally, people who live through very difficult times and very difficult events do the same......this is not by chance.

Four years ago, I learned to can using a pressure canner. I canned all the store-bought organic vegetables in my freezer, making a soup mix. Then I canned spaghetti squash, butternut squash and acorn squash from the store. I canned green beans from my garden. I canned all the meat in our freezer; beef, chicken, turkey, cod fish, Italian sausage and breakfast sausage links. Then, I canned 2 scrambled uncooked eggs with leek, garlic, onion, salt and 2 turkey sausage links in pint jars to pack for breakfast while primitive camping. It turned out great! It slides out of the jar like a roll. I cut it in thick slices and reheat on my tiny iron griddle in the forest. No worries about refrigeration. I put my cases of canned food in 5 gallon mylar bags with O2 and moisture absorbers to prevent the lids from rusting and they are still good. If the power grid goes down, I know how much food I am able to can in a day and how many days it will take to empty my freezer. My mom and grandmother canned every summer, and as a child my job was washing inside the jars, because I had small hands. They are not here to teach me now, so I had to learn myself.
@micklaws55206 ай бұрын
Awesome..we did the same. A large pressure canner and an electric one. Sometimes just 4 quarts of anything we will can. On sale beef, veggies,potatoes,chicken…..the chicken we buy from pour local butcher shop that buys from trusted locals.

I'm right there w/you. I'm currently living w/my mom after caring for my dad before his passing. We're in uber blue & the most corrupt state in the union, Illinois. My mom won't leave at this point in her life & I understand being an elder care giver. A move to a whole new state when Illinois is all my mom has known is not an option at this point. Hang in there & know you're not alone, my friend. We'll have no regrets once our parents are no longer w/us as we held true to their wishes in their final journey here on earth.😘♥️ I've handed everything over to God so He's in control. I'm just doing the right thing for my parent(s) & Him. God bless you & your loved ones. Much Peace🕊️

I caught people several times parking in front of our house and picking off plums from a tree in our front yard My parents planted it about 25 years ago and assumed for over a decade that it didnt produce fruit only to find out that the squirrels ,birds and now people were enjoying it. I planted a peach tree last year and people are already asking about it( not how to plant one themselves...) I have a small( 3×14) garden and have always shared any extra with several of the neighbors ... but now others have asked my elderly mother what we do with the food. They know she is an easy mark. There isnt enough to can I was in a bad accident before the cov but they will not give me disability,they say you can't have any income for over a year Must be nice to survive a year without income. I dont make half of what I made then My mother is a full time job alone I have politely offered the same people baby plants from my garden but " I dont have time..." or" I dont have a green thumb ... " I tired of the nonsense I am struggling financially This is part of why I garden I've always enjoyed being able to give to my neighbors but no one enjoys being taken advantage of My money ,my time

In a crisis a days wage turns into 2 days food- maybe. But consider this; When a plywood plant opened up in Mexico at the end of the 90's when NAFTA passed they were paying the workers $0.64 a day. That was the local rate for 1 chicken a day. They had people lined up at the door to work 16 hour days to get that chicken.
