I was born in NYC of Puerto Rican parents, I grew up on Rice and Beans 🫘 and a side of chicken, pork , beef and one egg. Growing up on NYC Lower East Side automatically made me a survivor. I retired and moved back to the island 🏝️ . I have a home with a half an acre and I raised chickens, grow plantains, bananas, oranges, figs , papayas, avocados coconuts catch land crabs 🦀 I have a well . My home is set up as a security blanket for my kids and grandkids. I also take in hurricane refugees within my community. I always share my plantains , mangos 🥭 with my neighbors. I’m not rich , but what I have I share .

Chia seeds for Omega-3!! Throw it in the rice and beans. Want protein? Add clover (20%) and garbanzo beans (40%) cause the canned chicken is going to run out. Stock Chia seeds 😁

Or you could do potatoes which have everything rice and beans have. ..freeze dried. You could sprout peas for a nice green if you chose peas instead of beans.

Go frozen with the fish. Yes keep cans as backup, but the interior of cans are lined with zinc for antibacterial purposes and this leaks into the meat inside over time. Overconsuming zinc coats your gut lining and makes it difficult to absorb nutrients over time.

Only meat, dairy and eggs contain all the essential amino acids. Plants do not. You need protein and fat for the human body to live. Your entire body is made of cholesterol and water. Thus, the salmon will keep you alive. The rest are good filler, but not required for the human body. The small amount of glucose needed for the brain is made by the liver using protein (gluconeogenesis)

Ive got lots of rice and beans, walnut trees grow all around me, have many on my property and many fishing spots and an artesian well I am so blessed and grateful.

One metal trap can catch one critter per night. I hang an old bone with fishing line towards the back of the trap and it always catches a racoon or opossum.

@@JakeSoulFreeTravels An artesian well is deep enough to tap a a layer of porous rock close to an aquifer and there is natural pressure, therefore no pump is needed, the water just comes to the surface and out the well pipe like magic. Its a luxury in my eyes as no power shortage would keep it from working.

@@JakeSoulFreeTravels A well deep enough to get down to a layer of porous rock close to the aquafer, there is enough pressure to push the water up the well pipe without any pump and not likely to ever go dry. The French settlers were were expert at knowing how to do these type wells.

I like to make a salad and pour in a can of sardines in olive oil. No additional dressing needed.

Need lots of calories in a form you don't need to cook and can eat while you move with little or no water and can open and close easily with no refrigerator after opening. Coconut oil, honey, and peanut butter. These can all be easily carried and shared and traded while also carring your essential gear and can last for a month or more. Try carring rice or beans or anything you have to add water to before you can eat it and you'll quickly be trading for peanut butter and honey.

Beans, corn bread and fried catfish...Yay! Other than your three things, one of the most space saving preps you can have is what I call green powder. I'm blessed enough to live in the country. Every spring wild edibles are popping up everywhere. I dehydrate and powder them, mixing them together so I have a variety in each container. Then there are garden greens and veggies like kale, green beans and beets. Puree, dehydrate and mix them in with wild greens. The more variety you have the better. I also take another dry powder a step farther. I ferment a LOT of food using salt water; think kosher dill pickles. When it gets to the stage I need to eat or I will have to toss it, I puree, dehydrate and powder anything edible; wild edibles, carrots, celery, chard, you name it. This powder is kept separate from my plain green powder. When fermented green powder rehydrates in your intestinal tract, all those good microbes wake up. It's salty enough to replace table salt, but will lose its live benefits if heated.

Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to 2 cups of beans with water. No soaking necessary. Beans cook quickly & are quite tender.

I learned to make a stir fry dish that is made with basmati rice lightly stir fried haddock scrambled eggs and your choice of vegetables and some onion. My husband was from Scotland and we cooked this quite often. They called it kedgeree. Delicious

This is a good video for preppers. Actually, it's an excellent video. He's teachin' us, not preachin' us. He is answering questions that a lot of us long time preppers ask. I don't know how many times I've heard it said, or read it somewhere, "rice and beans makes the perfect protein." This video finally answered the question ..... every prepper, every serious prepper, should watch this video and find out. Well done Dr Goshen. Cudos to you Sir. I'm from Wisconsin. I lived in Alaska for 6 years. Did a lot of Salmon fishing. Fresh Alaskan King Salmon is delicious, but for me Lake Perch And Walleye is as good as it gets!

​@@CarnivoreGraceBig difference! Sucrose is either cane sugar or bioengineered (GMO) beet sugar, Which, by the way, is also highly toxic. Both beet sugar and High fructose corn syrup affects the LIVER and pancreas. Thankfully, Bayer and Monsanto have not been able to GMO cane sugar.

You can forage dandelion leaves for your rice and beans and make conifer tea to make up the balance of everything else you need in terms of vitamins and minerals.

I like a nice, big, flaky cod filet, and I also enjoy salmon. I have a lot of rice and beans put away, but I am diabetic and should not eat many carbs - including the rice, beans, pasta, potatoes, crackers, breads, corn, etc. I stock them anyways because in an emergency - food is food. I have lots of canned fish - tuna, salmon, mackerel, sardines, plus other canned meats. I really liked this video - it was easy to understand and very informative. I try to watch your videos whenever I can - thanks for all the good advice yoou always share with us.

Kia Ora so simple thank you, I loved reading the comments as we own a dairy farm in the Waikato, New Zealand. Our herd is grassfed when we slaughter one we share it with staff and friends, as meat is expensive to purchase. I fish the beautiful Coromandel coast & my favourite fish is snapper.😊

I am very, very poor I have been able to put away a lot of beans and rice. People who go to the food pantries around here won't touch them and they usually let me take as much as I want. I figured out the main problem is going to be fats but I can't afford much grass-fed or salmon. I save all my fat and processed and can it for emergency. I am hoping it will be good enough if we are starving to death and have been growing fruit trees in containers. I used to do all organic but my husband broke his back and he works but his high earning years have passed. I will tell you our health has suffered eating the crap food I have to buy.

Buy a small animal trap, I'm older too and it's so easy to catch raccoons and opossums. I got real good at catching and releasing them, but I.C.E I'll be eating them. I paid $5 at the open market for the trap, I plan on buying another.

@@flyrobin2544 yep when bullets run out traps still work. Unfortunately I have to get a new crawdad trap. Homeless guy broke the lock box on the truck and stole mine and crushed half and dropped the other. He also got my lawnmower. If I had penny for every time I told my kids to lock it up. But the one time my husband didn't check. The last one that got stolen my kid came in for water and it was across the street before he got back outside.

We have a free shelf in our laundry room. The people that live here at our rv park get rid of all the rice, beans, nuts and cans of salmon and spinach. I score the best stuff without having to go to the food pantry. They keep all the junk food.

Sardines packed in olive oil serves multiple purposes. Not only is it a nutrient-packed protein and fat source, the oil can be used for cooking. Find one that is light flavored and clean tasting.

I agree. Wild Planet Wild Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the best I've ever bought. Every can is crammed full of sardines and their oil is superior to cheap brands. Sardines are good in whatever you would normally use tuna. For example, I add the oil and sardines and a little water to the cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese or noodles and cheese. It would work great in tuna casseroles, too.

Water is the necessity no one is talking about. If you are storing rice and beans you absolutely must have water (unless you plan on spending your days grinding grain for meal). I have done the math: A 50lb bag holds 200 cups of dry rice -2x cups of water. This means you will need 12.5 gallons of water for a 50lb bag. That equals 100lbs of water (if you need to carry water from a distance this might be difficult, especially in on foot). This is only the rice.... Beans are an even higher consumption of water. For every 2 cups of beans you will need 6 cups if soak water, and this is a "quick soak", youay need up to 10 cups for a prolonged cook. For an overnight soak, you aill also need 10 cups of water for only 2 of beans, and more for softness. This addsany lore gallons and weight to your trip to a water source. Remember, prep like you haven't got any water, or funds in the future. I have no problem aith your choice of salmon, but again, think outside of your coldbox, you may not have refrigeration. Can Salmon be smoked, salted, cured, dried or canned? Yes, it's called gravlax. Please, before you dive head first into someone's advice, search out the inevitable negative parts, like carrying water uphill from a spring. Sorry that there are so many spelling errors, I wrote this early in the morning. BTW, I forgot to add at 12.5 gallons each gallon weighing roughly 8 lbs, that's 100 pounds of water. An EMP will cut off your well pumps, so don't count on those.

I know about water. It doesn’t fall from the sky in a desert. You have to have a source. And water is HEAVY. Canned is good because you don’t need to have the water for cooking. Rice? Canned rice I will have to look up. Rice and beans are a must and canned salmon tuna I’ve used. sardines? I’ll have to check those out. 5 gallon water jugs - and how do you get water from desert air???

Here's a fun tip, you can easily grow beans from supermarket bought dried beans, also dried peas and lentils will all grow for free food. Also go to the bird seed isle and you will find sunflower seeds and many other mixed seeds which will mostly all grow. Happy survival gardening. Green love from Australia 💚🌲🌏🙏

Growing them that way you can cut after they start to grow 4-8 days and have your greens. Micro greens from beans have different nutritional value that you would be missing eating just the 3 items in article. So growing your dried beans is genius, genius!

Gorilla gardening, scope out your surrounding neihborhood. Many plants can be grown indoore, but it can be involved with steep learning curve. Sprouts are loaded with nutrients, only take a few days or so. And can be grown threw the winter.

Good video… just one thing I would like to add… about 10 years ago scientists wondered why dolphins developed a fatty liver and they found out, that the fish 🐟 the dolphin ate, had not enough c15 in it any more. This C15 is a saturated fat all animals and humans need to build healthy red bloodcells. The membrane needs C15 to be stable… so, they found out, that having non functional red bloodcells a process starts in the body that leads at the end to a fatty liver. The study you can find on KZbin. Fazit: knowing that fish is not so healthy any more, we should eat beef 🥩, sheep 🐑, deer 🦌 and butter 🧈 - they all have C15 in them. Ps: English is not my first language…

This depends on how long you need to survive. Short to intermediate term (days to months) salt is more important than fats for survival. Since you must eat it, salt is a food. Every animal source of fats listed is preserved with salt and most of the vegetable sources are packed or served with salt. Green grasses are a natural e source of animal Omega-3 (ALA) . Tall fesque and annual rye grass seeds may not be as good as other grains for Omega 3 but should not be overlooked when foraging in a survival situation. Overgrown lawns may help keep you going, and do not overlook dock.

WOW! You just described my diet: salmon or sardines, walnuts, & beans, but I don't add rice to my bean soup, that changes starting tomorrow. I also eat an avocado and carrots daily, and dandelion salad which I grow myself. I also drink cacao w coconut oil and cinnamon everyday. My loves are trout stuffed with crab meat. I also love salmon. Next would be tuna. I absolutely abhor blues, it has a very strong flavor. Grew up below the poverty line. Dad was invited on a fishing trip, blues were running. He brought home a 85 fish. 🐟. His fish and everyone else’s. It was blues 2x a week. You ate what was put in front of you with gratitude. Just the thought of blues makes me queasy.

Omega-3 is a collection of 3 fatty acids: ALA, DHA, EPA ALA is the plant form that has to be converted to DHA and EPA to be useful, and it is only about a 5% conversion rate that is halved by excess Omega-6. Some people are incapable of any conversion. DHA and EPA are not available in plants and are only available in necessary quantities in animals.

Beans and rice are great cheap options to keep you going and if your starting your storage is the best two cost effective things to get started. My son and I work out and use protein powder so I keep a decent amount of that which can be rotated around. But I also keep Salmon / Tuna for the protein as well.

​@@ItsComplicated333i have a freeze dryer, so i can just freeze dry them and that would do the same thing. Or i could precook them and then freeze dry, then just readd water when ready to eat.

Excellent info. Soak beans and rice, preheat a vacuum flask, add rice, beans, boiling water and cap/seal. wait a few hours to cook and your done. much less heat required...

Best bet is to have a crockpot solar panels and power inverter, in case finding dry wood to burn becomes scarce.

Liked and subscribed! So few folks in the preparedness community talk about this stuff. This is great content. We've got our rice and beans squared away but could always, always use more tuna. I have about 100 cans on hand at all times as it's a part of our regular diet. Those hundred cans are a normal one year supply for my family as we go through about two cans a week during normal times. I'd love to double that number and even get some 50 cans of salmon (I make a mean salmon cake with eggs from our chickens and herbs from our garden), but everything is so damned cost prohibitive today.

There's a trick to cooking perfect beans without wasting water and fuel. Soak your beans for 12 hours in water with a teaspoon of salt. Don't rinse. Cook on a gas burner at the lowest setting possible for 2 hours.

My great grandmother showed us pictures of the great depression she had been very rich but time reduced everybody to having no food , the lakes were empty same for wildlife, you had a garden when you could and stored everything you could, she said it got so bad several times that she would walk to the town dump and take leather home and boiled it for a tea like drink. Just to survive, everyone thinks it's hard right now ha you have no idea how bad a dictatorship could be

Beans are the easiest food to cook quickly, using very little fuel! Fist soak them overnight, measure out all your ingredients, then throw everything into a pressure cooker, depending on the bean type and age of the bean 10-30 minutes and you are done. Pressure cookers are great for stealth cooking where you have to cook up your food in one location, the quickly move to a different location before you are sniffed out, plus a pressure cooker is a sealed container, so release the pressure plug the vent tube with a piece of wood and the food will keep all day or longer while you travel, escape or relocate. If you add a moonshiners coil to your pressure cooker you can distill water, if you distill salt water you get the added bonus of salt, or make alcohol, both will be valuable commodities for survival or trade. Hunt yard sales, thrift stores, second hand places for the old type pressure cookers which use tough rubber for sealers instead of the new silicon which does not last. You can also store beans rice, salt, dehydrated meats, matches, extra ammo etc in a pressure cooker then bury them in your second, third or fourth bug out locations and the items will last forever stored inside the hermetically sealed cooker. You can also replace the standard handles with removable metal ones for campfire use and ease of throwing the cooker in your back pack, storage etc..

Can’t you just buy canned beans? They last about a year. Definitely sardines, salmon, and low mercury tuna in cans, quinoa, rice, however, quinoa cooks very quickly also.

@@hollandgem2 Of course, can goods is an excellent choice and will last far beyond their stamped expiration date. Dried food items may be an option or the only type of foods available, this is where a pressure cooker shines, but they can also be used to distill skunk water, sea water (+salt), alcohol, all of which are necessary for survival plus make excellent trade items. Further, you can use the bottom half of a pressure cooker as an ordinary cooking pot.

@@CharlesGwinn-ep9pb Just like the Pioneers did: they took an extension cord, ran it to the nearest tree and plugged it in. You can do the same, that's the reason you always have an extra-long extension cord in your bug-out bag...

Just looked up the amino acids of lentils. Lentils is a great substitute for beans. Doesn't provide methionine, but rice does. The advantage over beans is lentils cooks way quicker than beans. Boil for 15-20 minutes and your set.

Coming from New England, my favorite seafood is any kind of cod or haddock for a fish and clams/scallops for shellfish. I live in south central PA now and I have a very hard time ordering any seafood in any restaurant because we're so far away from the ocean.
