I was so aware of logic that Star Wars being fiction and a cartel movie being fiction are two different things when one is based off a nonfictional issue in the real world. I still enjoyed the movie, but I fail to see why people get so whiney that the dude that lived and breathed fighting the cartels is maybe not going to be able to just look past glaring things they are so knowledgeable themselves on. We’re often stingy with the things we are good at or know a lot about. Not a big deal bud

@@angelo9144 you realize his comment is more loaded than just being sarcasm? It’s a dumb sentiment implying that Ed’s an uptight snob who only likes media if it’s realistic. Meanwhile if you have a brain, you can understand a dude who gave his life to a career is going to have more informed opinions on the authenticity of media that portrays that said career. And if it wanders far enough away from the real world situation it portrays, someone who went through it is probably gonna be like “this is way out in left field.” People are getting so butthurt like little children that a dude who fought narcos for decades doesn’t like a movie they like for his own legitimate, clearly valid reasons.

I don't really think a regular border agent can speak on covert CIA operations using delta force. While sicario is fiction(though inspired by a true story Sheridan was told by a female agent who happened to heavily inspire Emily blunts character ) the United states has conducted several operations with goals as shown in the movie that only ended up making the situation worse. Taking out the main kingpins destroyed any level of control and just turned it all into hyper violent chaos. The movie is a masterpiece in my own personal opinion and the only tiny little thing that could make it even better would've been to set it a just a few years back in time.

I think Sicario is a masterpiece cinematically. In terms of cultural accuracy, I feel like it is accurate, but only the extreme aspects of it. But why make a film about the basic stuff? Movies, including documentaries, aren't "realistic", because they are edited down to 1 1/2 to 2 hours. So, they are slices of life, on the most part. That said, who the hell knows what goes on behind-the-scenes with the CIA and cartels and Juarez. Even when I hear from a former Mexican policeman or ex-CIA I'm still wondering what they are affirming or denying out of principle or protection for their families, former co-workers / team members, or oaths sworn in their former professions? Fear of retribution? Or just not telling the public what they can't handle. "Sicario" seems entirely realistic. Technically, of course it's not a "documentary".

The first Sicario with Villanueve is a top 10 at least for me. The people that call movies horrible like this one for example because of what it’s probably lacking/changed don’t understand that a lot of things have to be instilled to give it that dramatic flair that will hopefully make it a masterpiece. Of course it's not 100% realistic. But a lot of people in America had no idea how brutal those Cartels actually were before watching that movie. Because its well documented at this point and there's plenty of people who've been murdered over the issue. Yes, the movie portrayed a fictionalized account on many aspects of how it's currently being handled. But it highlighted the most important aspect of whats currently happening... being that it is an extremely messy and corrupt situation and it's likely not getting fixed anytime soon.

If you accept it as it is (Hollywood), it’s one of the best, well crafted films in years... I hope it’s being studied in film classes! Edit: I don’t want to come off as a douchebag by this comment, I have TREMENDOUS respect for Ed Calderon and have seen so many podcasts and interviews with him. Del toro’s character was never pretending to be a border agent. He was pretending to be an American DOD advisor while working with the CIA. So no matter how high up dude was in Mexico he definitely got that wrong. No one on Garber’s team ever pretends to work for the Mexican government. They work with them to pick up Diaz’s cousin or brother and that’s it. So him wasting his time being mad over a gun was just stupid on his part. Might be time to watch the movie again buddy.
