I don't really think a regular border agent can speak on covert CIA operations using delta force. While sicario is fiction(though inspired by a true story Sheridan was told by a female agent who happened to heavily inspire Emily blunts character ) the United states has conducted several operations with goals as shown in the movie that only ended up making the situation worse. Taking out the main kingpins destroyed any level of control and just turned it all into hyper violent chaos. The movie is a masterpiece in my own personal opinion and the only tiny little thing that could make it even better would've been to set it a just a few years back in time.

Movies, including documentaries, aren't "realistic", because they are edited down to 1 1/2 to 2 hours. So, they are slices of life, on the most part. That said, who the hell knows what goes on behind-the-scenes with the CIA and cartels and Juarez. Even when I hear from a former Mexican policeman or ex-CIA I'm still wondering what they are affirming or denying out of principle or protection for their families, former co-workers / team members, or oaths sworn in their former professions? Fear of retribution? Or just not telling the public what they can't handle. "Sicario" seems entirely realistic. Technically, of course it's not a "documentary".

Of course it's not 100% realistic. But a lot of people in America had no idea how brutal those Cartels actually were before watching that movie. Because its well documented at this point and there's plenty of people who've been murdered over the issue. Yes, the movie portrayed a fictionalized account on many aspects of how it's currently being handled. But it highlighted the most important aspect of whats currently happening... being that it is an extremely messy and corrupt situation and it's likely not getting fixed anytime soon.
