A former military housing estate in Germany is to be given a new lease of life. Patrick Henry Village near Heidelberg was where American Forces lived for sixty years until 2013. Now architects hope to transform it into a world leading, cutting edge urban development. The vision for the old military housing estate is an architecturally exciting city district. It would be based on small-scale mainly digital enterprises in what’s called the sharing economy. For the latest on forces news, come to forces.net/.
Interviewed in this story are Professor Carlo Ratti, Merle Plachta, Professor Carlo Ratti, Professor Kees Christiaanse, and Professor Dr Eckart Wuerzner.

I worked on Patrick Henry Village for 12 years. It will be interesting to see what they are going to do. They had both 110/220 electricity, American stores, schools, movie theatre, bowling alley, and much more. I miss Heidelberg, a great place to live!

What years were you there? I lived at 2B Alamo Circle in 1958 which was one of the many 3 story apartment buildings for families of enlisted personnel. Oh the fond memories, especially of the encounters I had the girls who, like me, were going through puberty.

I lived in Patrick Henry Village for a year starting in 1958. Oh the fun I had as I and the neighborhood girls were just entering puberty. We lived at 2B Alamo Circle. In the community was a bowling alley, a theater, and the equivalent of a modern day convenience store. I still have some of the currency used on base. There were no coins. Nickels and dimes and quarters were in paper currency. All too soon my family had to pack up and head back stateside when my dad got orders for Camp Stewart in South Carolina.

I think they are tearing down the entire former Nachrichten Kaserne. The Hospital as we knew it is soon to be demolished.

The fire hydrants are not American. They are a model 150 pn16 DIN gg25a made by german company VAG Mannheim. Better research next time...

I think the hospital has already been torn down. I took a youtube" Stassenbahn ride " and did not see the hospital.

I worked at the Dental Facility 91-94. Bought my first car at the Pentagon Auto Saab 900s for 18,000. I remember eating at the Burger King, the movie theater, and the yearly carnival.
