Cale sits down with Kayla Richardson, a convert from Mormonism to Catholicism, who shares about her upbringing in a Mormon family and what led her to the Catholic Church. Topics discussed:
the word of wisdom; the problem of evil; the nature of God; the social cost of conversion; how to talk to Mormon friends about the Catholic faith.

I’m a cradle catholic who looked all over the christian community seeking Truth: Baptist churches, Methodists, Angelicans, Fundamentalists, Mormons, nondenominationals, New Age, and so on. I came back to Catholicism. It was founded by Jesus Christ. It has the fullness of Christianity, deep reverence for God, the wisdom of the ages, the world’s most gorgeous places of worship, and a rich, rich history.

I met a guy from Utah when I went through basic and technical training in the military. He told me one of his primary reasons for signing up was to get away from the Mormon church. I guess his dad was an elder and that is a big deal in Utah. Anyway he told me Mormon's had some of the goofiest beliefs of any religion and told me to steer clear of that faith at all costs. I wasn't practicing my Catholic faith at the time and made some off-hand comment that all religions had their quirks but he was insistent. He said when it came to quirky nobody could hold a candle to the Mormon's and that their entire system was based on a delusion of a nut-job. I thought, okay, he has issues with the church, and we never really talked about it after that night. Now, many years after the fact, as I've become curious about sects like Mormon's and Jehovah's Witnesses who stake a claim in Christianity but don't believe in most of the basic premises like the Trinity or the physical resurrection of Christ, I have come to the realization that my buddy, while he may have had a particular family axe to grind, had a point. Mormonism is goofy, goofier in a lot ways than JW's, which takes some doing. I'm just grateful I found my way home. It took a while, a lot of years spent in the wilderness, but five minutes into my first Mass convinced me I was home. Christ had left the light on and I'm never leaving again. Isn't He something, a whole lot more than what the Mormon's make Him out to be, a whole lot.

I was a Catholic that converted to Mormonism and received my Temple endowment. I won’t reveal any tokens or details of the endowment publicly, but I’ll tell you that the temple endowment is what the LDS church calls the New and Everlasting Covenant. Both Husband and Wife MUST receive it to be “sealed together forever” My wife and I are sealed to each other with two children who are born into the covenant. Not Until recently, I began doubting all of this. There’s no place for doubt if you’re holding a calling in the church. You have to “know” that Joseph Smith “restored” the priesthood and the original Christianity. The more I read about the early Church Fathers, I am learning that the original Christian or Jewish apostles of Christ passed on their teaching to Pope Clement, Polycarp, John of Patmos, Titus and Timothy among others a very simple Gospel of complete eternal submission to God. Whereas the apostles of the “restored” gospel teach of an Eternal progression into God. They are two very different gospels when you go to the temple. The latter day apostles teach that you must “use the enabling power of the atonement for your eternal progression with your LDS wife” to be exalted in the morning of the resurrection. Which is total blasphemy! I pray for my wife to open her eyes to see Jesus for the loving God He is and Submit to Him.

@@creomentis exactly! Jesus taught eternal submission to the Will of the Father. Not Eternal Progression to becoming like the Father. I am not sure how to help those that are happy to remain in their deceived state. I told my Bishop to take the teaching of the gospel through the original church and the restored church to the Lord. Then ask if Joseph Smith got John 1:1 right or if the apostle John got it right? Be sincere when you ask, which one is the true version of you Lord? reveal yourself to me. Then wait and look for the signs! If you are a Mormon and considering Catholicism, I am happy to help you learn from the original sources that were passed through the apostles to the church fathers.

Praise be to Our God! First time I’ve seen Cale or Kayla; welcome home ma’am! I still wonder why God let’s so many miss out on the fullness of the faith. Obviously, we know His grace is offered to all wherever they happen to be. It’s just that there are ecclesial communities, for example, where they don’t know abortion is objective sin. I’m thinking about Abbey Johnson, from “Unplanned”, whose episcopal minister disinvited her and her husband from church membership because she had become pro-life. For that matter, don’t LDS say abortion is okay? It’s hard to follow Jesus if you don’t know how to or even you have to. For the “Sola fide” folks, “it’s not the hearers of the law who will be saved, but the doers of the law”.

@@mikelopez8564 without faith we cannot please God and faith comes by hearing the word of God . Faith is evidence of things not seen. He that believeth and is baptized is saved,he that believeth not is damned. So baptism is useless with true faith in the ressurected Jesus,not the jesus who is still hanging on the cross . Anyhow both Peter and Paul baptized for the same reason the ressurected Jesus. Nothing to do with baptism into your church.

@@frederickanderson1860 I would just remind you, according to Paul, of faith, hope and love, love is greatest. Scripture tells us of several ways we are saved and baptism is one of them. 1 PET 3:21. By grace through faith, another. EPH 2:8. By works and NOT by faith alone JAM 2:24. Scripture does NOT say one can be saved by faith alone and, in fact, teaches the opposite. Jesus is risen indeed and reigns in heaven, amen. But St Paul clearly says in 1 COR 1 that WE preach Christ crucified. His act of redemption ought to be at the forefront of our faith, as in a single image, represents the Gospel best.

John the Baptist was greater than Peter.jesus said no man born of a woman was greater than he. Lastly only after johns death,did Peter have the privelage of having been forgiven for his denial of the true purpose. I think Peter is given to much credit,that john the Baptist was greater.

The Catholic Church is a very important part of Christianity. there is one thing that bothers me and that is that innocent babies need baptism to go to heaven. That is something I can't accept.
@rhamsesmartinez5007
@rhamsesmartinez5007 Жыл бұрын
Hi @monabiehl6213, The official position of the Catholic church is that even though children and infants are innocent of personal sins, they still retain the effects of the fall, as all who are born into this world do- we are spiritually separated from God and need a spiritual rebirth. The Cathechism of the Catholic church states, "The church does not know of of any means other than baptism that ASSURES entry into eternal beatitude; this is why she takes care not to neglect the mission she has received from the Lord to see that all who can be baptized are 'reborn of the water and the spirit.'" Regarding children who die without baptism, the catechism also says, "God has bound salvation to the sacrament of baptism, but he himself is not bound by his sacrament... Indeed the great mercy of God who desires that all men should be saved, and Jesus' tenderness toward children which caused him to say: 'Let the children come to me, do not hinder them,' allow us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who have died without baptism." Furthermore, the Catholic church also teaches that baptism brings about graces/spiritual blessings that aid in the spiritual development of the individual that can't otherwise be obtained. The church therefore, teaches that parents should not withhold baptism from children. I hope that made sense. I myself am a recent convert to Catholicism.
