It’s a shame that no one takes the time to go over the history of why the 1976 Gold medal is so important. First the USA was robbed of the Gold medal in 1972 against the USSR. Was the first time that they didn’t win the Gold so it was a revenge. 2 Remember these Olympics teams were composed by young college basketball players going against grown up men. 3. After that in 1980 the US boycotted the Soviet game a and in 1984 the team was lead by ( MJ, Ewing, Mullin) the Soviets boycotted the LA games. In 88 USA got bronze in Seúl last team composed by college players and 1992 the Dream team was formed. This is why the 1976 gold is so important. If you take a time to learn history you understand the events and the old timers. Basically through those years the two superpowers used basketball to show the world which country was stronger.

Not talking outside accolades we’re talking strictly sports/NBA career There is no hate we acknowledge that Lebron is a good player When you compare rings Lebron’s to Jordan’s Lebron’s rings is not respected why? He did not get it out of the mud. Lebron did not go through the grind. Lebron did 7 years in Cleveland realized he was not going to catch Michael Jordan. So what did Lebron do? He hand picked his way by joining -MVPs -All Stars -An already Champion in D Wade Mavs vs Miami Championship resulted in a loss despite hand picking to join established players that were already leading their teams to the playoffs or championship ie D Wade, Chris Bosh, Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving. Lebron did 7 years in Cleveland and realized that he was not going to catch Jordan and decided to recruit and go to Miami cool his choice. Remember the grind it took for other NBA players to make it over the hurdle to capture a championship? Isaiah Thomas, Michael Jordan that feeling for them and the world to see was like no other that grind towards capturing a championship is what globally the world loves that passion and dedication to achieve the ultimate goal commands a lot of respect. Felt like the people went through that grind as well because we were apart of that journey supporting and watching that accomplishment. That’s what’s missing from Lebron, it’s not even close or a debate when it comes to Jordan. Kobe knew as well that if he continued with Shaq he would have heard because you had Shaq so Kobe went and got it done without Shaq. Jordan and Kobe’s love globally overseas Lebron does not compare unfortunately. Prior to Lebron’s “The Decision” was a bad move in the eyes of many but it was Lebron’s decision his choice all good. In Cleveland Lebron was respected more and had he just stayed in Cleveland and sweat it out like other past champions. Yes he came back to Cleveland but it’s still not the same he did not get it out of the mud. We respect Lebron and his rings but when you compare his rings to the greats…… His path to glory and his rings are not held in the same regard to past champions and to the people. It’s not even a debate and it’s not even close. Michael Jordan stands alone until the next true phenom arrives. Tired of the 90’s because to some are not built for that grind.

@Arctanis-vt3hl2 ай бұрын
92' team was the team that inspired many of what you see today in the NBA. They made the game global and rightfully so, should get credit for it. It was the first "super" team of it's kind and they did what they were supposed to do - win by 30+ every night. You make it sound like the competition has caught up to the NBA, and it hasn't. The USA has a full roster of NBA players. At most, each team had maybe 2 NBA players. The USA was favored to win by at least 10 pts and they barely beat Serbia and France, which means they underperformed. IF the 92' team was playing in this Olympics at the same ages, they would destroy these teams by a wide margin. Not a single game would be close because that team played defense.
@michaelrandle72962 ай бұрын
@Arctanis-vt3hl That's not the problem, I don't mind them getting their credit in a historical context. A person would be a fool to say they weren't influential in expanding the game, but you brought up my point. They expanded the game to be global. In doing that, you don't think other players from overseas as kids weren't inspired by them, and trained to be just as good. They only played against a total of 5 foreign NBA players who weren't really that good. They were light years ahead of those teams so what do you think the '24 team would have done to those teams. I'm not saying as a whole the foreign teams are better than our guys, but they are a whole lot closer thanks to the '92 team.The '92 would have problems also, they would be against players in coming from the NBA and international league that are better nowadays. The three ball would be hard for that team to contend with because no one was a consistent 3 point shooter. Bird doesn't count because he barely played due to injury. Magic had retired, he would have a harder time because those guys would have tired him out. Mullens was the only one, and he didn't get a lot of minutes. Do I believe that they would win, for sure. But it would be as easy as you guys think. Sidenote: As far as rumor has it; the lineup for the 2028 team doesn't look too good, especially with Brown, Tatum, and Haliburton saying they may not play because of what happened this year...

It's embarrassing how these guys don't know basketball history. This just proves how unknowledgeable & how people (NBAers & fans today) seem to think that basketball started in 1992.
@johnnythekid46012 ай бұрын
no basketball they think started in 2004 because accrording to them anything in the record books prior to 2004 shouldn't count because they didn't do it against the superior athlete/player of today

I'm on NEITHER SIDE. I'm on Steph Curry' s side. I hope that he and the Warriors kills it next season and get championship number 5 and somehow Klay comes back so he can retire on top with Steph, as he should. However, I think that he and Kyrie, and Luka might do it first!

It's a big deal because it's a gold medal, and winning that is more important than a down to the wire, drama filled, entertaining loss. We already know the USA dominates the world when it comes to basketball. And for that reason some people, like Madog 🥱 thinks it's not a big deal when you're heavy favorites to win before the Olympics even start, It's' more newsworthy for Madog to talk about a historical upset than just another Gold medal, even though he's an American.

Gil sayin' there where no NBA players on the 1976 😂😂😂. Dude, I'm from Mexico (not exactly basketball capital) and I Know that the first time NBA players were allowed to play at the Olympics started with the Dream Team. You learn that in school when they make you run around the laps 😂😂😂. I feel so bad for people who actually listen and believe what he says

The medals meant more pre 92' and they mean more now than anytime since 92'. The international players have never been better and have closed the gap between NBA talent where 4 of the top 10 in the NBA aren't actually from the US today.
