Great to see former and current leaders in games development continue to address the issues in current game development, and attempt to spread important knowledge of what works behind the scenes. If you haven't yet looked at Masahiro Sakurai's Creating Games series, its chock full of lessons to present and future game devs that will help our favorite hobby get through these rough times.

What about all the tools that have reduced development costs? Basically makes things quicker and faster and less man power, I don't just mean A.I. either. There is definitely a disconnect here. Genesis Alpha One was made by one guy due to modern tools.

Doesn't stop budgets from being insanely expensive, modern gaming is a joke, from so many fronts Games have no creativity, no one's willing to take risks, sequels play it too safe and don't innovate. DEI is rampant and software sales are declining this gen, people are buying less games because how games now just blend into each other Modern physical media is not true ownership because the disc is a license that can be rendered useless through firmware updates, not to mention if a game has DRM or forced online connectivity, those games have a life span. Still paying for online in 2024 and prices keep going up. The video game industry is slowly crashing and once it hits its breaking point, people will just play retro games and play indies.

Charging 60 usd for a game in 2000 is the same as charging over $100 for one today. If not $110....plus tax. So maybe we should've just started selling games for cheaper once they caught on. But greed ate this one and it's gonna keep growing. Good interview, though.

the answer is simple, enough with the 4K graphics, yes it's great but not essential, 1080p or 1440p is good enough, we want art direction and gameplay, so the development cost is just high enough to earn back the investment. No one cares about the reflection when they're busy not dying in the game

The classic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega is something we should see revived.

Great interview to start. As an adult gamer with career and family to look after; I agree, I would prefer to have an excellent 10-20 hours gaming experience that I enjoy and be excited every minute and keep the price where it is at the moment. Just a question I have; couldn’t the advances in AI and machine learning help with cutting development cost? I honestly don’t know or understand as I have no expertise id developing games. It is just that AI is continually cutting down the time for me in my field (scientific research).

The man's gotta a point. Imagine if Assassin's Creed franchise were more focus on the quality and narrative and less in the hours you spend playing it.
