tip for anyone getting this, UPGRADE your home wifi first. Look for something that says wifi 6 or 6e. then make sure your PS5 is HARDWIRED via ethernet.

I did that after having many disconnection issues despite having decent internet speeds. My router was just too old at that point I think. After upgrading it, it worked miles better. I can't even recall the last time I was disconnected since then. I can finally say I don't regret buying the Portal.

Im tempted to get one for serveral reasons: 1. It gives a lot of busy people a chance to play games when they can without being stuck to a chair. 2. It shows Sony that the demand for portable consoles never died and that they could be working on a dedicated portable console.
@dioskoro2 ай бұрын
This thing works because it requires little to no additional overhead to Sony. A dedicated handheld means they need to restructure their game development to accommodate the lower powered handheld device so they can make low/mid settings available for games (assuming they will treat it as same platform, just weaker relative to the home console version) Another consideration is how will they price it? The console itself is already sold at a loss, now imagine a PS5-lite portable. I’d say it will be at 400-500 range but its going to be a tough sell given that it will be a weaker version of the PS5 while being priced the same (if not more). Now if we want a literal PSP2/PSVita2, it aint gonna happen. Game development is at an all time high, there’s no scenario where Sony will further spread its resources to support a dedicated platform. Switch works because it is a hybrid. Steamdeck works because it is literally a handheld PC. Sony essentially needs to either make a hybrid (unlikely) or make a PS5-lite for it to gain traction.

I wish MJR mentioned that cause that is one of the biggest cons imo. If you’re a sole user, then it doesn't matter. But this is a huge overight.

I got a carrying case for it that also stores my headphones, wired charger and battery bank. I leave it and it fits perfectly in my locker at work. Now I personally don't play the "pretty games" like God of War, Ghosts of Tsushima, etc. I save that for my home theatre. I don't travel much, and even when I do, that's time for my handhelds to get their play. In the house, I have plenty of games and TVs to play on, and I can already remote play my PS3 or 4 with the Vita, though that's really more of a novelty than anything, or play the Wii U on the tablet, or Switch... heck, even my Nomad. The PS Portal seems pretty irrelevant unless you're in a very specific cross-section of people who travel a lot, mostly buy digital, don't play on a laptop, tablet, or Steamdeck, and don't play portable consoles.

The required internet connection is still a big turn off for people. Paying $200 for something that can only do remote play when things like the Switch and Steam Deck can play games offline. Still a waste of money imo. For most people, they can get a controller for their phone and not only have remote access to their PlayStation, but Steam library on their computer. Then if you pay a gamepass subscription, you have Xbox games as well. Not to mention emulators for so many previous generations of game systems and android/iOS games. Sure, if you want a bigger screen or if your phone is not great maybe this could be an option. I'd recommend a Razer Kishi controller, but there are a bunch of alternatives like a Gamesir or Backbone. Not supporting bluetooth in favor for their proprietary wireless connection isn't consumer friendly.
