Khama is not a good man. Just because you were going out with one of his family members does not make him good. Do you know how many people he killed mercilessly during his presidency by using the same DIS he is complaining is harassing him? And by the way, under President Masisi, the DIS is interrogating people according to law and not murdering them. That man Ian Khama used to HATE the media and jailed many journalists who opposed him. He has NEVER held a single press conference during his 10 years as a president. Now today, Ian Khama, wants people to believe that he didn't have dictator mentalities?

@kamalindsey 2 жыл бұрын
@@africanborn1851 This is empirically not true, by many metrics Botswana is declining in democracy and it correlates with the outgoing of President Khama and the new administration who is significantly more authoritarian than his predecessor. By 2018, when Khama left office and handed over to Mokgweeti Masisi (the current president), Botswana scored 0.333 on ‘government effectiveness’ (GE) (on a scale from -2.5 to 2.5) and 0.476 on ‘voice and accountability’ (VA) (on the same scale). Its GDP per capita was US$8,279. By 2020, the GE score had fallen to 0.257. The VA score edged up slightly to 0.494 but reports of crackdowns and abuse of security services to serve authoritarian ends have escalated since then. GDP per capita has fallen to US$6,711, partly due to the devastating impact of Covid-19 on wildlife-based tourism. Masisi has reintroduced trophy hunting of iconic species, purportedly to raise revenue, but word in the bush is that organised criminal gangs parading as ‘community trusts’ are being allocated elephant trophy hunting quotas. Elephants are then being hunted against actual community members’ wishes, given that they rely on the presence of elephants for their ecotourism initiatives. Again, the reintroduction of trophy hunting and the apparent large-scale abandonment of anti-poaching efforts appear to be part of a malicious effort on Masisi’s behalf to destroy the work of his predecessor(s). It is the height of short-termism, given that the country will increasingly rely on ecotourism for revenue as diamond rents decline. Even the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index of 2021 now categorises Botswana as a ‘flawed democracy’; Mauritius is the only African state to be categorised as a ‘full democracy’. There are other metrics, but separate bipartisan international observers are by and large raising alarm bells over Botswana and Rwanda, both once hailed as the beacons of progress in Africa.

The former dictator must not be allowed to hide behind Mzansi's democracy. He was an authoritarian who had an antipathy towards journalist and callous disregard for the Kalahari Bushmen who were illegally evicted from their ancestral homeland in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Press freedom was under threat during his regime. Outsa Mokone a journalist was arrested and charged with sedition. Journalists feared for their lives during his administration. Leadership is not genetic lottery, Khama is not special. He must must go back to his country respectfully and subject himself to the laws that he himself promulgated

Any association with Nigerian leaders, particularly President Obasanjo, will rubbish the credibility of Botswana. Botswana has continuously maintained commendable economic stability, security, human rights, democratic values, even during President khama. According to Global Peace Index, Botswana is at 41 positIon of peaceful countries while Nigeria is at 146. In Africa, Botswana comes 3rd while Nigeria dosen't even appear in the first 20, rather it takes 8th position among African countries with the worst global peace index. Of course, the facts are obvious. If Obasanjo can not be able to confront multiple evils in Nigeria which include corruption, Islamizim, insecurity, nepotism, tribalism, religious intolerance, authoritarianism, and above all, abuse of human rights, how can he contribute meaningfully to other nations like Botswana. There is nothing good Botswana can learn from Nigeria in terms of governance. Instead, Nigeria has a lot to gain from Botswana's democratic values and human right. It is in record how Obasanjo dethroned an elected President, Goodluck, to bring a terrorist government. "Charity begins at home." Let him solve the problems at home before coming out side. Botswana has much more stable democratic government, secure society, stable economy, and successful democratic government than Nigeria. These have resulted in the rapid economic and social transformation of Botswana. Let the the Church in Botswana and the traditional council mediate NOW, rather than allow corrupt African leaders to destabilize and destroy Botswana. We should be proud of what we have - UNITY IN DIVERSITY. Let us preserve it.

For what!? Khama is Botswana's embarrassment! A liar with no shame. There is a lot here he is not telling you, knowing that you know nothing about Botswana. For example, the minister whose home was attacked and his car burnt down was given warning by this man on social media a few days earlier. His fault was simply to tell Khama that Kgotla, customary gathering place, is not for politics. This has been the case for years in our country. He wants to turn it into a political freedom square. Nobody is taking away his right to speak but it should be in an appropriate place in line with our tradition. So many lies have been told in this interview. We saw the video of his brothers' arrest for example. No guns were seen anywhere. It's not the first time he lied.
