I don't believe this nation has ever been godly. There were true Christians here and there who lived within the nation, but didn't have a big influence. There were Christian values within the society of course, but it was all surface level.
@Window45035 ай бұрын
It’s never been godly. Its very inception and the way it gained land and the way it built itself up has been filled with violence, theft, and degradation. Our peace in it is a gift DESPITE the country. We can’t complain when God removes it, especially as the church. Jesus said we would have trouble and that the world hates us. That’s the rule. We’ve enjoyed exceptions, so who are we to groan and whine when God takes away those exceptions and puts us back where the church has always been: as the minority, as the scum of the earth, and as the humbled who await the coming glory? The left may be pagan, but the right uses God to gain the world, which is even more wicked.

It is unfortunate that Trump has not heard a clear presentation of the gospel, or if he has, he has chosen to focus on good works, which cannot save. At the same time, many of our founding fathers were Deists, and did not believe or understand the true gospel. But there was certainly a respect for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Thomas Jefferson was as far away from the truth (including rejecting the deity of Jesus Christ) as anyone. Six of our nine Supreme Court Justices are Catholic. I can guarantee you, they do not understand or believe in the simple gospel that saves you. We should pray for Trump, as the Bible instructs us to. The hand of God’s judgment is hovering over this nation. Time is short. 🙏

It’s possible that someone did share the gospel with him and he either didn’t listen or didn’t understand it. Trump has narcissistic traits. To hear that he’s a sinner and needs forgiveness is a difficult thing for him. As someone who has shared the gospel in many spaces, even if you give a clear summary of it, many refuse to comprehend it. You can say “you’re a sinner in need of a Savior, and Jesus died for you” and all they’ll hear is “you’re going to hell and I hate you and you’re a bad person.” It’s not just as simple as sharing the gospel. Their biases misinterpret and reinterpret messages even when you’re being as clear as possible. The most memorable for me was a lady getting upset at me for saying Jesus is the only way and then acting like I was being elitist and excluding her from heaven, even though I told her multiple times that Jesus died for her too and that my very message was an invitation to eternal life! It was right in front of her, but she chose to accuse the gospel of shutting the door in her face. Why? Because she didn’t want it to work like that. And that’s often what misunderstanding in the face of the clear gospel boils down to. They don’t want it to work like that. The Bible says “he who has ears” for a reason. The sinful nature will go as far as twisting your words as they’re spoken. Trump certainly isn’t above that just like many unbelievers.

Trump's family in America was close with Norman Vincent Peale, who as we know wrote "the Power of Positive Thinking." That influence is why, when he wanted to appeal to Christian voters, Trump surrounded himself with false Christians from the name-it, claim-it, speak-it-into-existence word of faith/properity gospel movements. Its why his so-called pastor was Paula White. (I say trying to appeal to Christians as opposed to believing because his own former advistors have said Trump would pose for photos with White and others in the oval office, but would mock them the second they left). Trump no doubt heard the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, but he doesn't believe it. He has publicly stated on more than occasion that he has never asked for forgiveness becuase he has nothing to be forgiven for. His positive thinking is all he needs.

Honestly this is kind of splitting hairs. Yes, the gospel is “Jesus is the only way” but 80% of the Bible is the OT and is full of “only those who do good/are good get to Heaven” kind of messages. He’s not a pastor, he’s not preaching, he’s giving a casual religious answer in a political interview.
@lcollins43135 ай бұрын
No the OT is based on the promise of a Redeemer. The OT sacrifices of animals daily for the sins of the Hebrews. Never good works. By grace are you saved, a gift from God, not by works. Jesus Christ is THE WORD. The Authority of the Word is our plum line. Bezel explained himself well and gave plenty of of scriptures to make his point. You haven’t given any scriptural references. And the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is in 1 Corinthians 15. Salvation is a gift from God, not by works least anyone should boast.
@lcollins43135 ай бұрын
And devout Jews came to Jerusalem Temple to participate in the Passover and Pentecost yearly. The Passover Lamb was Jesus Christ , their promised Messiah and Redeemer. 😊
@selahr.5 ай бұрын
@@lcollins4313 I’m not arguing the theology, what you say is correct. But Trump is a toddler at best in religious development and experience. He’s probably trying to read the Bible but hasn’t learned how to integrate it to that level yet. That takes more time, and for many that takes repeated church attendance at a good church (which if I recall, his father was somehow involved with Norman Vincent Peale who was a “positive thinking” guru and pastor so Trump may have some deconstructing he’s yet to do before he can grasp what a good church and pastor is as well).

As I am not a Calvinist, I disagree that is Trump loses that it was in God's will, plan, and purpose. If it were this way, why would God ever put some of the yahoos in authority that we've had throughout history? Why would He not pick the absolute best rulers? We have to remember, it was not God's plan for Israel to have a king, but they demanded it, so Moses gave it to them.
@Savedbygrace225 ай бұрын
Not sure how you come to your conclusion except by your own preferences. Reading the OT you read everywhere God controls the good and bad kings for His plan and His glory. Read Psalm 2:1-4 and Psalm 47:8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. By your saying why would he not pick the best rulers you are saying the will of the people is more powerful than God. That would therefore mean God is not sovereign and is at the mercy of the human, not saying your trying to do this but that’s blasphemy. God knows the end from the beginning and uses even our willful sin in his plan for His glory. He is able even when our puny finite minds can’t understand how he does it. ✝️ Acts 2:22-24 says the same thing. Man is responsible but God uses it for his glory.
@Savedbygrace225 ай бұрын
Also Acts 2:22-24 would argue God is Sovereign in the sinful acts of men as well. The definite plan and foreknowledge of God sounds pretty convincing. God says he hates our sin but he isn’t powerless against it.
