I am an Ex-Convict & I just want to tell you how Grateful I am for everything you said in this interview. The horrors from the things I saw & experienced in prison have never left me & changed me forever. I've had a very hard time since I came home in my relationships with others & the aggression that stayed with me from being incarcerated. I been seeking help because I to started drinking just to deal with the nightmares & to just get some sleep. I still feel that fear of closing my eyes in prison to sleep & running through that checklist every night before I went to sleep of; Did I offend anyone today or make anyone feel disrespected who may slice or stab me in my sleep tonight. It truly is life altering & all of the changes you mentioned truly do need to be dealt with. I also agree with the Military sentence in the courts & I've always thought that was what our Justice system should do! So, THANK YOU BROTHER!

I worked 20 years as a Correction Officer on Rikers Island, retired for 15 years. When I started the job Administration expected you to write a scenario in your report. As for your mental health concerning the stress of the job, Administration would tell you, if you cant handle the job drop your tin in the bucket on the way out. I remember Seabrook as a union president, addressing staff at roll call. He stated, to make your tour go easy give the inmates what they are suppose to get. I wish I had the insight concerning my mental health, I would not have the regrets I carry from my personal life as a young man.

We need fundamental change in our jails and prisons. Warehousing people in cages without hope or a pathway to bettering themselves is wrong.

By listening to this man, I honestly respect him. Next thing is that, the way he spoke it tells me that he's a leader, a teacher, someone with a strong mental but definitely not a push over. That means if he's supposed to face the bull by the horn he will definitely do thar but before that, he rather to treat everyone as how they should be treated by law. I honestly respect this man.
@cheesetoast8312Ай бұрын
That is interesting. I respect him too but for different reasons of which he has yet to earn the right for me to tell him. I do feel he should provide a direction before he begins his show so we know its not just some fool trying to be noticed. So far the feedback is just that. If he applies himself his personality can open doors for him but he has to organize these rants and place context on them to educate those who make view him as a grumpy old man who does not understand the 5150 show. Its a good persona but he falls short of keeping the attention he grabs.

I knew many correction officers 👮 who worked in Rikers island and most of them had mental issues, they hid behind drinking and drugging Back in the 80’s after analyzing I turn that job down. Most officers I knew were fired or brought up on criminal charges. NYPD has no respect for other law enforcement agencies. I’ve been to one of there parties and was an embarrassment heavy drinking and drugging Officer’s act worst then inmate. I knew many members from riot squad who were fired for excessive force. Penal system is nothing but a plantation form of salvery . This is nation wide Corruption at best. Officers selling sex to inmates. What a disgrace. Can’t trust anyone in that job including officers.

I did time on rikers as a kid. Inmates couldn’t bully me but you know who they got when they couldn’t ? The officers. They not only instigate they were just as bad if not worse than the other inmates. I won’t even get started on the unfair prosecution of minors. Last but not least to put what yall were saying in a jist. What we don’t do as Americans is put the responsibility on the one with authority. It’s not on the citizen or inmate to carry themselves with respect, follow the law and be an example that’s on those in authority and they should be chastised harder than civilians when they don’t uphold this code. Unfortunately it’s the other way around in this country

Former correctional officer here: I'd have arrested that girl. 16 isn't a "Kid", she was fully conscious of the consequences of her actions. I knew not to do drugs at 16. As did all my friends. They at least were smart about not getting caught with it. When you let people break the law with no consequences, especially when they are old enough to know better, you openly encourage certain classes of people to believe they are above the law. What's next? Letting 15 year olds be above the law? Then 14? Then 13? Then 12? Do we let 11 year olds get away with mder? When is the line drawn? Also, they arrested that girl. This NY Co is lying to give the illusion he's different than the other COs.
