Hi, thank you for being on KZbin. I have a question about S.S. and retiring at 62. If I made 80,000 a year, and put 50% of my income in my 401k (40,000) that would make my taxable income 40,000? Then I would be penalized for 17,000 after the allowance of 23,000 a year. Or, would my income still be 80,000? Thank you for your time. Margaret L.

I am a widow and became disabled after my husband past. He was 8 yrs younger and several yrs later my 2nd ex husband past who had lived longer than the husband I am drawing on.. 1st ex husband is still living. I draw mine in the form of SSDI and I draw widows also. If my 2nd Deceased husbands Benifits were more can I switch to the hirer drawing deceased his and or both of theirs? I was with first husband for 9 yrs married 7 yrs, second ex husband 8 yrs married 7 yrs and the 3rd husband and I were married when he past together 15 yrs married 7 yrs. I am 61 and wondered if my widows Benifits go away when I reach 65 or will I still collect his til I die along with my SSDI. The second and third spouses were not disabled and both worked up until their passing.

I took my Ss at age 62. My spouse did not take his until 69 yrs 11 months. He passed suddenly at age 72 yrs and 10 months. We were married 36 years. When I went to SS they said the calculation would be a combination of both. No one ever said anything about the credits for waiting till full retirement age. Can I go back to SS and ask for reconsideration to make sure SS calculations were correct? It will be 6 years in Oct.

You probably are benefiting from his delayed credits, however, you also took your own SS early so that would have had an early filing penalty. I'm sure you can always ask SS to explain how they arrived at their final number.

Thanks Doc. I am glad you repeat things bc I forget things. Followed your advice and hope to be getting divorced spouse benefits soon. Easy to start a claim by phone. They were able to look spouses ss # up just like you said!

I started benefits at 65 (born 1947). I do get benefits from my divorced husband (married over 10 years)? Is it considered drawing early at 65? Do I get reduced amount for drawing "early"? Do I get 100% of my spouse's at his death?

Can you still work while on surviving benefits?
@DebLindley-xg8gz17 күн бұрын
Yes, but, if you're not at your FRA, this year you can't make more than $22,320.00. For 2025, it's $23 thousand something. Sorry, major brain fart.
