My dad, Chaplain Donald Eubank, was the last Chaplain to pastor the Fischbach Depot chapel before its closing. He also pastored the Münchweiler Chapel during that 1989-1992 tour. We lived on the German economy in nearby Dahn. We returned to Germany five years later, stationed in Kaiserslautern from 1997-2000. My dad retired as a LTC in October 2014 after 31 years of Chaplaincy to our military. Thanks for the memories...I even worked at the Fischbach mess hall as a summer hire in 1991!

I was 18 yrs old, a private 2d class when I arrived in 1979 and remained there working as a 55B, Ammunition Specialist. I would of lost my mind if I had not fell in love with the Motor Sergeant! It was very cold in the winters, and for fun we get a pass and ride into France to go and party and report back for work next day. Being down range with munitions, storing, re-warehousing, repalletizing, was no fun, but I made it a commitment and spent 21 years in the military as a Ordnance 55B and I now am retired living in the Bahamas and still have all of my fingers and toes, my faculties and good health. This place will make you grow up real fast, especially when you have to go down range to respond to leaking munitions. Get Smart, or Be Dead~ Sad to see this old 1st duty station go down---perhaps could be a great area for agriculture or BMW Races of the future~ Miss you Fischbach. I was Specialist Linda Barry when I departed in 1981. Am not (Ret.) MSG living in Fort Lost in the Bahamas.

Linda did the place look like what was in the video when you were there? I was at a similar location north of Pirmasens that stored the "other" weapons of mass destruction, Site 59 in Clausen, and this is what our site looked like with all the trees and brush among the igloos. I know in the early 80's all that brush and vegetation had to be removed per the regulation. I went back in 2004 and Site 59 looked like the face of the moon.

I stayed on your room till you returned and then I lived off post in Ludwigwinkel. You may remember Bobby Sircy. We were married Dec 1981. He had since passed away in 2014. Just wanted to reach out. This film brought back a rush of memories of 50 years ago, when I was a young 20 year old , who spent 31 months in Germany, remaining 22 months with the 385th M.P. Co. In Stuttgart area with Barracks in Kornwestheim. . Needless to say this film brought back a lot of memories. Some long cold nights and days in a tower 6x6 45' above double fences. I was stationed at Fischbach in 1992-1993 with the 64th Ord. I was brought in with other engineers to close down the kaserne. I spent many a day hauling nuclear war tips on the flatbed of a m920 through all of those tiny towns making our way to K-Town. If you want to see people get nervous, have them watch those rigs coming through with what looked like missiles down those narrow tight curved roads through their villages. It was entertaining to watch the expressions on their faces. We had citizens coming and protesting the site at the gate we did not drive through holding signs against nuclear weapons. At that time the war tips were all that was left that was dangerous.

BOY OH BOY.... this brings back a flood of memories of when I was there from 81-82. 2 lane bowling alley. Ration cards to purchase 4 cartons or 50 single packs of cigs per month. Miller High Life was $4 a case. I was there when the kennels were just built. I was there when the new area was opened up and was hiped as state of the art. The end of the road the bunkers were on ended at the French border. There when 3 or 4 guys broke into the AF ( Augmentation Force) bunker and stole a bunch of weapons and ammunition and tried to sell them.

From all the comments I've read I guess I am the oldest tower rat. I was stationed with the 193rd MP company. We worked Fischbach depit areas 1 and 2, and housed at Camp Dahn outside of the city of Dahn. We called the post Happy Valley. I was thete from 66 to 69. The towers weren't worth spit, hardly ever had a working heater and once you were up there you didn't come down untill end of shift. We had a few idiot racists but for the most part they were a great bunch of guys. Our 1st Sgt was Adolph Sanders, platoon Sgt was SSG Johnnie Thomas. Also there was Cpl Bernard (smokey) Maddox. Called him smokey cause he set his bunk on fire smoking in bed. We drove the 20 or so klicks in a 3/4 ton and a 2 1/2. Was not a fun ride in the winter. Loved going to Bad Bergsaben. Thanks for the memories.

Hi. the video is not that old and shows some places in 2022. only theres bunkers and the tower building in area were left. there is an interesting group who care a tiny bit for it. the depot were many military personal has been living and working is mainly there and used for small business and tiny industrial. the ex oficers cinema is now a theathre for a hobby group. from area 2 and the bunkers near the depot is nearly nothing left. you have to look very intensive to find some things left. no fences, no installations and so on. only the best quality roads were still there. nice for gravel biking in the spare time. the missile launch site at the braunsberg and the control site on the mückenberg were also completely demolished. only some bigger flat areas were left with concrete surface for storage loggs. one man has there some honey bee boxes. mmmh, special tasty honey with a sharp finish from the nuclear heritage... i am living in one of the houses which were built late 70ies for the chief officers of the areas. these are only 4 apartment houses in the living areas in the village near the huge forest, but the citizens call them "the blocks". so funny and stuppid how short minded many of the indigenious people here were. seems they haven`t watched tv or being more far away than next village to call a 2 floor house a block. if i could, i would sent them some days to the bronx or mexico city or one of these chinese cities to make them see what a block is...great natural environment here with famous and huge samdstone rocks. you can look at google pictures for "dahner felsenland"...if you want more, just ask. best regards.

this is aquestion you won`t find anyone who can response. official say, there is nothing, cause its compeletely openend, even many of the bunkers with the nuklear war heads. others bunkers who weren`t demolished, are rented for forestry or privatiers. there has been one bunker in the early 2000 thousands which was used for firework storage. something went wrong and the comletely firework demolished the bunker and thown concrete blocks of several tons some hundret meters in the surrounding forrests.. and there were some honey bee boxes at the site were the nike nuke missiles were 24/7 prepared for lauching at the braunsberg missile site. must be a special tasty honey...yam yam
