Man, it's been almost 2 decades since the last time I played this game. It was the first Crash game I'd managed to 100% completed. I had the PS2 version with the absurdly long load times, but I eventually wised up and got a magazine between waiting. Good times and full of nostalgic. The soundtrack were the redeeming qualities.

My favorite level as well! In the past year or two, we've optimized the level, finding 2 faster cycles, and much improved strats in the bonus to shave off over 15 seconds in that level alone!

Droid Void and Weathering Heights were my favorites, despite the hanging sections. Also Bamboozled, Eskimo Roll, and Force of Nature were pretty fun to speedrun when going after the relics.

Replayed it last year on emulation, can definitely see the problems the game had (DKW cause I remember enjoying this game), but FINALLY someone else said it! This game has really good music!

Yeah, there's definitely some terrible vehicle levels and pieces of bad design and such but the soundtrack itself is amazing and one of the best in the series. Plus, people usually exaggerate how bad the game is, there's some godawful moments like the submarine but most of it is just OK.

No, for some reason they made it so that getting a checkpoint automatically breaks all the ones you didn't break before it, meaning you can skip all of them as long as you get the last one in the level.

Okay, I saw you miss a few checkpoint boxes and yet somehow you still got the box gem?!? Do the checkpoints not count as boxes in wrath of cortex?

If you break the last checkpoint in each level, the game thinks you have broken all previous checkpoints. So checkpoints do count, but you only have to hit the last checkpoint in each level.

Ps2 is the most optimal version of this game, if you use OPL. If you don't have access to OPL, your loads may be long as hell, but you would still be playing the most optimal version, as TWoC is timed using In Game Time, not RTA.

You shouldn't use the NTSC-J version or you'll waste time by Aku Aku talking after breaking a Aku Aku box. And yes, that was in the previous NTSC-J Crash games as well.

Actually NTSC-J on PS2 is optimal for this category because of the red gem path being easier than NTSC-U and also the mask cutscenes can just be skipped instantly so barely even make a difference :) (also PS2 in general saves a couple seconds over Xbox/GameCube because of the plane in the 4th boss fight shooting a bit faster)

You only need sapphire relics for 106% in this game, which allows you to skip a lot of the boxes (in some cases you literally don't need to get a single one) and still easily get the relic.

@@cenoret It's a weird quirk. If you break the final checkpoint in a level, the game believes you broke all previous checkpoints within that level. As such, you only need to break the final checkpoint within each level in order to obtain the gem.

24:49 Yes, Crash is fuzzier and has more fur texture on the Xbox version. I own both the GameCube and Xbox version of WoC. WoC was released later on Xbox compared to the others which gave them some time to work on the models. Crunch and Coco have that furry texture as well.

Good question. That's a "damage abuse" - we can use the few seconds of invincibility that we get when losing a mask to to walk/slide/run through death pits. The timestamp you provided only saves a few seconds, but check out Droid Void Relic (1:57:11) if you want to see an example where it saves a bigger chunk of time (about 40 seconds)

The Wrath of Cortex had it's flaws, but it was way better than It's About Time. Why was it better than It's About Time? Well, obviously, because The Wrath of Cortex wasn't as gimmicky as It's About Time! And by "Gimmicky", It's About Time has the crappy Quantum Masks, the power-ups from Warped (Except for the double jump power-up) did not make a return in It's About Time, Dingodile, Tawna and Cortex's gameplays suck, It's About Time is a copied, pasted and edited version of Warped with time travel and multi-verses, etc.. It's About Time sucks because it's not as good as The Wrath of Cortex. The Wrath of Cortex deserves a remake. Enough said. Fun facts: The Greatest Hits version of the PS2 version of The Wrath of Cortex had shorter load times.

The game is timed without loads which actually makes PS2 the most optimal to run (due to some differences over Xbox/Gamecube), and even if loads were included, there are ways to minimize the loads to merely a couple minutes over the course of the entire run.
