What a run. Nitro, Retro, 32 tracks, and 48 tracks WRs all in one, not to mention landmark subs in both IGT and RTA! If Bonus was less horrible I would be satisfied with this run forever; as it stands I still don't see myself returning to this category for a very, very long time.
Full list of crazy things this run accomplished:
48 Tracks WR by 30 seconds (first sub-1:09 IGT and first sub-1:29 RTA)
Nitro Tracks WR by 21 seconds (first sub-24 IGT)
Retro Tracks WR by 19 seconds
32 Tracks WR by 16 seconds (second sub-hour RTA)
Note: I've been struggling a little with stick drift on my controller, and it strikes at 18:58 and forces me to watch the highlight reel. It definitely wasn't intentional, but thankfully (?) it's happened before so I knew how to exit out of it quickly :P
Note note: I tried to clean the controller the day before this run to eliminate the drift, and not only did it not work (as evidenced by note above), but it also seems to have broken the motion controls, which is why I just can't trick on some random ramps, most notably on TR. Time for a new controller? :)

There's an autosplitter that tracks in-game time, so it can split on its own and pause the timer when races aren't going

How many hours did you take to perfect the run ?? Did you start of with time trial runs at 200cc or ?? Learning to speed run the game now as would love to one day go for world record haha

I'm not sure how long I've played this category in particular, but I have about 3000 hours in the game in total. I'd definitely recommend a healthy dose of variety if you plan to stick with the game long-term :)

@@UIM-Koda Different track groupings for speedruns, 150 vs 200, playing online, 6v6 teams, time trials, etc... there's lots of ways to play the game, and personally if I only did one I'd get sick of the game over time. I started with 150cc cup speedruns, but since then I've branched out into doing a bit of everything (mainly on 200cc at this point but I still like 150 too)

The first shortcut is faster, but I opt not to do it because it's difficult to do consistently. All other "shortcut" routes are slower

There's an autosplitter (see github.com/VikeMK/MK8DX-Video-Autosplitter) that times approximate IGT for me; then it's manually checked so it's accurate to the frame

This cant be a valid mode to do WR speed to start with given that every race will have different outcomes based on items given or used by the AI. In Time Trial mode yes, the playground is even, its just your skill alone.

There are separate categories for items vs no items. There is more luck with items than without, but there's a lot of skill required to have a fast time regardless
