I remember when I speedran this as a kid out of fun. I saw a speedrun and I remember beeing extremely proud of beeing faster than the speedrunner in the first two levels of the game, but afterwards I got clapped. I think it was Top 200 worldwide for the time, but I didn't know how to submit it and had nothing to prove it with.

I’ve ran this game and it is not as easy as it looks. Despite only having to do about 3-4 worlds. Now I don’t understand the strat of getting 2000 at every flagpole, I usually aim for the bottom to minimize the amount of time it takes Mario to reach the castle. Can somebody fill me in?

They can be opened from the edge, but when you do that mario has an animation where he walks up to the center first before walking in, so it's better to run to the center then enter. Edge doors are better for ILs since IGT doesn't count up there.
