Forming Box Pleats. They are folds of fashion fabric, equal in two parts that turn away from each other from a chosen centre point. The two folds meet on the underside (underpleat) and not the right side, as in an inverted pleat for example, thus creating a ‘box‘ style shaping.

Oh my god this is so simple! Thank you for this, I tried learning how to do this with text directions and the ones I found were so complicated and confusing i got a headache. The way you explained it I could have understood it with just the words. Thank you very much!!!

Not only are your videos the best quality I've come across, you also have a very pleasant voice to listen to while you're giving instructions. I'm currently doing a correspondence college course on fashion sewing, and none of the video reference materials they offer are as helpful as yours. Thank you SO much for making them!

Happy new year and welcome to the fashion sewing community. In answer to your question, when sewing with chiffon fabric, try using a polyester thread or all purpose thread. You could also try a natural thread that has some sheen in, for example silk or cotton. Try watching my video - Sewing with Slippery Fabrics for more useful tips on sewing with fabric such as chiffon.

Thank you for the video! I do have a question regarding bulk caused by pleats in a waistband. I've sewn a pleated skirt in a heavy, stiff velvet fabric. The waistband is meant to be folded over. However between the pleats, the pockets sewn over the pleats, and the doubling over, it's a very bulky waistband. Is it possible to reduce the bulk caused by pleats without ruining the integrity of the pleat? Thank you so much!
@colleenglea

Hello Michelle, You can cut out one layer of the pleat fold above the stitch line, on all the pleats. I hope that helps!

But when we sew it repeatedly then the box pleated and inverted pleats are looking similar and that's my problem how to distinguish between a box pleats and inverter please when it was done repeatedly
@colleenglea
@colleenglea 5 жыл бұрын
You are right, think of it like this, the wrong side of an inverted pleat is a box pleat, and the wrong side of a box pleat is an inverted pleat. Whatever pleat you want to be on the RIGHT side of the fabric will be either one, the choice is yours to make. I hope that helps priya bhaskar thank you for commenting .
