You can stop materials from becoming "stuck" by going to material settings and changing "max_stuck" to 0. Only Earth and Stone have a positive "max_stuck" value by default.

I've found that if a material doesn't move when you use the rotate tool, it's because it has "settled" and frozen in place until it's in some way disturbed. You can fix this by using the move tool, and clicking once on the area you're trying to move, in this case, the whole planet. That will unsettle it, allowing it to be influenced by things like the rotate tool and gravity Edit: As @someasianweeb1660 said, there is actually an option in the materials setting called max_stuck. Setting that to 0 will make it so materials don't settle at all

Something that you might want to know is that Hot and Cold molecules seem to be attracted to the top (as in top in our perspective) of planets while the bottom likes to heat up much more and the top cools down much more effectively, It might be something like the Volcano map that's in the game by default

Water is a chemically embedded in some of the earths crust, so when tectonic plates get dragged under each other that water goes too. That water is what creates the pressure for the volcanoes to erupt, that water is also what helped get some of the earths convection currents going int the first place. So adding water into the mantel is actually realistic. Water initially got into the earths mantel via larger asteroids that hit the earth with enough force to shove water below the surface, or deform a tectonic plate causing it to subduct dragging water under the surface. Just the sheer weight of the water in the earths early oceans could've caused tectonic plates to subduct dragging water under the surface.

It seems that an optimization method that "freezes" solid objects that have been static for a prolonged period of time was implemented. The quick workaround I found for this is just clicking my creation with the "move" tool once.

I'd love to see you just put a bunch of materials around a gravitational core, melt it all down to liquid, and then just wait and see how they separate out and freeze over time. Would the crust form mountains around the still molten core before it freezes solid?

If you go to material settings (by clicking on draw and then stone and the clicking stone under the draw panel, you can change a variable called max_stuck, if you set it to 0 then stone can’t “refuse to move” and will constantly move, which will also remove some of the tectonic simulation but it’s a tradeoff

Try smashing multiple objects together as they're spinning, as well as with things like water, stone, metal, gold, etc. In each object. This will simulate the most realistic rendition of how earth was formed

Hi. The simulation would be more realistic from the point of view of geology if a new crust were formed, where convective flows diverge in different directions. To familiarize yourself with this topic, you can read about Wilson cycles on the wiki.
