big difference is stars are doing fusion. hydrogen to helium while that planet you're seeing glow is just heated up from all the beating it's received. big mass hits you equals big force and big force equals high temperature. so, basically, the stars got internal fuel, which is the hydrogen they managed to collect from space gases probably launched off by a supernova. whilst planets only get heated up from external sources, like other rocks hitting it, so for obvious reasons it will eventually just lower its temperature (probably relatively fast). you'd have to be constantly throwing rocks towards it for it to be constantly hot. ;also heat is transmitted differently depending on whats going on. planets get colder and colder stars get hotter and hotter.

actually, three hours was the rotational period when the moon first formed! The moon slowed it down to 24 hours about the time the dinosaurs walked the earth. Also the earth WAS mostly water at its beginning stages after it cooled, the formation of granite was what would change that.

When you slowed the rotation of Earth to 24h, you could have justified it by the fact that at first the new gained rotation was really fast (like the three hours you got), but over the billion years it slowed down to where we are now. :)
