I live in Rwanda and have for the past 9 years, I have been a fan of f1 for about 3 years and thought of this exact topic from time to time if there is going to be an f1 race in Rwanda it will have to be near the new airport as none of the streets here are capable of hosting an f1 race and I don't think they ever will. They will have to build a brand new track and at that point they might as well just improve Kyalami to a grade 1 track and host an African Grand Prix there
@MrVsGarage4 ай бұрын
Yeah I definitely think the airport one makes the most sense (not claiming that F1 ever makes sense but if it did, that's where you'd put a track). If there could only be 1 race in Africa, would you prefer it to be where you live or to travel down to South Africa?

Guys the location has been already mentioned in numerous articles. ‘’A permanent track 15km outside Kigali close to the international Cricket ground’’ So speculation should now be where exactly in Gahanga where the cricket ground is located. Furthermore, I reckon there is enough, free and government owned land just before the cricket ground in Gahanga. It was initially planned for a new Olympic stadium which plan was later abandoned as we now have a pretty and huge stadium in Remera. I am surprised no one thought this land could be now used for the F1 track. To make this option even more plausible, the land use in the master plan is sport and recreational facilities ( P2).

Rwanda's construction strategies focus heavily on expanding infrastructure on the outskirts of the city, which could potentially lead to the F1 stadium being built outside of the main urban area. This approach could be smart for both city expansion and creating more tourist attractions. A balanced development strategy might help boost tourism while also managing urban growth efficiently. plus it's important to consider that all the areas mentioned in the video are lowlands prone to flooding, with soil too soft for proper tarmac roads.

Safety. Rwanda is the safest country in Africa. One of the cleanest and safest in the world. I’ve watched many videos of foreigners men and women. Especially women talk about how they can walk at 3 AM in the streets without ever fearing for their lives or their belongings. Another thing I’ve heard about Rwanda is the very low corruption, every foreign investment that was done there was accomplished on time with all the terms and conditions well respected. You might not be familiar with Africa but that is almost impossible anywhere else, that also includes many western nations now. We’ve seen these last Olympics in France. The lack of mortals insulting Christians with LGBT last supper bs, the river “La seine” that they failed to clean which made athletes sick, the lack of A/C and good food where athletes stayed. How many veterans and homeless people lives under the tunnels of Las Vegas while y’all send billions of dollars to Izrael in the support of a gen@cide? What about Ukraine? How many dead Ukrainian men do y’all need?

I think the most logical decision would be bringing back the South African GP, especially in a historical ground like Kyalami. Most F1 fans would love that reintroduction, just like Zandvoort in 2021. The track needs to be upgraded to grade 1 of course but it's probably more doable than making an entire new track. And South Africa is one of the wealthiest countries in Africa so they definetly can invest in the GP. Morocco could also make a comeback in Marrakech or Casablanca again maybe. God, even a Egypt GP could be something achievable if they want to go for something new. Instead, FIA just said: "Look, a country with an authoritarian dictatorship regime that is totally not using this GP as sportswashing and will probably have economical prejudice after investing in this race. I can’t see why we couldn’t extend the calendar and have South Africa, Rwanda, Morocco and Egypt have a race each. An extended calendar would mean more business and money to make for D1 and for each country. I’m originally from Rwanda and most people really don’t understand us as a nation and our culture and how our nation works. Kagame is actually loved by the overwhelming majority of us because he had brought results. We are thinking long term as a nation. If we can become a major tourist destination, this will change not just us but the entire region for the better, as Kenya and Tanzania are already popular tourist destinations, so whoever is travelling there could stop by us and give our nation a chance to really see what we can offer.

Most of the places you showed are serious hills, can't see an F1 car going on a 45 degree hill, but bugesera is possible, it's what we have close to flat.

As someone who is originally from Rwanda: This is terrible. The Dictator of Rwanda, who has been squeezing the country dry for almost as long as I live is wasting money to make the country look richer and more prestigious than it is, while the people are disillusioned and have no future to look forward to. They did the same thing with the conference centre in Kigali. Build a nice shiny building with nice roads around right next to the airport, keep the roads closed to the public to make them appear pristine until someone important comes by, and don’t let visitors see anything outside the shiny city centre. And that money is blood money, most of it from china, who built infrastructure for "free", but funnily enough not where people need it, but right from resource rich areas to the coast of Tanzania to get resources out. Modern day colonialism and human trafficking is paying for that Grand Prix. I haven't been back since 2017, when I was there during the last "election"... What I saw there shocked me so much that I haven't brought it over myself to return. And that was before the pandemic made things so much worse for the local population. The economy went from bad to worse, and an already poor population lost even more hope. And the ticket prices of the cheapest grand prix on the calendar currently is about equal to 5 months wages for the average citizen. This is not an event for the local population, like a monza or a silverstone. This will mostly be the few rich beneficiaries of the Kagame Dictatorship as well as people flying in, leaving money for "tourism" only in the pockets of the few rich beneficiaries of that dictatorship. People who had concerns about races in China or the middle east for human rights reasons, hold your horses. I would wish for a Grand Prix in Africa as well, but do it somewhere where the local population wants it, can afford to go to the race and it helps the local economy. Not in a country ruled by a dictator, with ticket prices equaling a few months of pay.

You have literally never been to Rwanda 😂😂 the convention center was probably the best investment in recent years it's booked throughout the entire year there are no closed roads anywhere in rwanda it's best to shut up than sound this dumb

@@youngkaway You don't know me, so don't act like you do. My grandfather was a farmer near butare/huye, my familiy visited every couple of years, my first time was back in the winter of 92/93… I was still to young to notice it, but my father later admitted he could sense something was off… My father still travels there at least once a year, but I have admittedly.not been back in 7 years, might be different with the convention center now than it was back in 2017… Back then, it was a literal ghost town… Partially because of the pandemic delaying a planned visit, partially because of what my father reports… and it matches up with what I saw last time around… I know it's hard when you grew up within the system, but me having been raised elsewhere, not growing up with the constant propaganda, but still being invested gives me a different view on this. I've seen the school books of my nieces and nephews… it's absolutely shocking how young the mind washing starts… and you can tell with some of my cousins, mostly the ones that were born after 94. And don't get me wrong, it was important for someone to end the genocide back in 94, and the previous government was even worse, but paul has outstayed his welcome by at least 2 decades… You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain… He's become a dictator that is holding the country back by trying to force it into a future that isn't sustainable or reachable… and to acchieve this, he sells the country piece by piece to china… Huge roads being built by chinese companies near akagera, it's modern day colonialism… And you don't build a stable middle class by building new development and forcing everyone within a certain position to buy a house there, taking up loans they can't afford, or by replacing local markets that had been a real jewel of the country for ever with strip malls. You've gotten lucky if you grew up profiting in the time, but don't be dellusional to think this is a healthy development. You might not be able to see the dark side of things, but my family sure has. My grandfather was put into jail for many years because he happened to have a wife of the wrong heritage, my cousing was forced to join the army, not everything is as nice as it might seem in the capital.When the country gets democratic elections, we'll talk again… I mean, it's positive to see Frank Habineza getting back from his exile in Sweden for this years election, but I have heavy doubt we'll see fair and democratic elections, the precedent of all the last elections have shown that kagame is not willing to let his citizens become independent and self governing. As much as I love F1 and Rwanda (apart from the politics), those two are not ready to mix. So, amahirwe masa and murabeho…

@bl4xxun I have lived outside the country and I do visit very often was there just in January kigali is not the busiest of places but it's not a ghost town by any means if it's around the convention center that place can't be as crowded as nyabugogo try to visit at least every 2yrs if you can,ask about government plans and how they plan to execute them then come back after another 2yrs and see if you won't see tangible changes on the ground I grew up in rwanda unlike you I know the poverty that was there in early 2010s and how different things are now in less than 15yrs we are developing slowly but we will get there

@bl4xxun I live in kenya I know all bout corruption and dysfunctional goverment institutions that don't work for the people in rwanda the goverment puts the people first always things like formula one are not just meant for rich countries we can be poor and enjoy those privileges too people criticized the visit rwanda campaign and look at it now people laughed at the arena look at it now it's probably the busiest arena on the continent people laughed at the convention center it has now put rwanda on the second spot in Africa for hosting meetings and exhibitions only coming after cape town these facilities are important cause you can't ask why you don't get opportunities when you don't have the right facilities in place to accommodate them

F1 really is playing the "floor is a permanent circuit" game by not going to Kyalami and instead going to another shitty temporary track in Rwanda

Purely in the abstract, that half-street circuit looks like it has the spectacle factor you'd be looking for. That said, F1 doesn't care about getting people into the city proper because they're not the audience here - they'd 100% just build it by the airport.
