I kind of understand Jack's point with defying that team order. If you're going to excecute a team order, you need to know and trust that your driver doesn't lose out.

Doohan made the right call, Novalak ended up getting passed by Vesti before the end, had Doohan let him by, then Vesti might have passed them both and the team would have lost the championship. And idiotic call by the team, the only point was to try to give a victory to their other driver, they were running 1-2 at that point and Doohan had more wins and was second in the driver's championship. The rational strategy would be to make Novalak block for Doohan, you don't put your more successful driver in the back here.

That's not how it works. The team wants a 1-2 and it's better to let the faster driver defend, not the slower driver. Overtaking is about pace differential - it's easier for the faster driver to defend. You may argue it's not fair for the driver, but it's definitely the right call from the team.

Not really, firstly, they told Novalak not to pass Doohan, yet he still tried to, which proves my second point, that team orders aren’t really a thing in F3, the teams can’t tell the drivers what to do like they can in F1. It’s not as if Doohan did anything untoward, he didn’t even defend. Novalak made a mistake and lost the place again, that’s not Doohan’s fault. In the end, Novalak started losing pace and dropped to third, so it was probably for the best that they didn’t switch them around. Having the drivers push each other to go faster may have saved them from Vesti in the end. Even Alex Brundle said Doohan was 100% right to fight for the position. Regardless of your personal perspective, it was exciting to watch, and that’s what we’re all here for.
