This car at video is sick, saw this one perfoming. We will try our best at 2021 season to fix our mistakes and build a new car, they also promise us bigger budget, even tho we dont have huge sponsors like RB. Weirdly enough I have just one question... Does the aero on the car really gives a big benefits in lap time ? I mean at such low speed, I'm wondering if the aero parts are really useful
@Matt-dz3xe4 жыл бұрын
They really are. It affects and influences greatly on how the car handles, specially accelerating and turning. It also helps with cooling the car depending on how well you design it. Aerodynamics is a seriously difficult subject. But the short answer to your question is yes. Plus, in this kind of competition, Formula Student, the participants are also ranked by the level of engineering of the car. So, if it's more well engineered and contains several aerodynamical features that are well documented, they perform better on the competition, because it also evaluates the project, not only the performance on track.

@SacUnDruz4 жыл бұрын

@@SacUnDruz German is my third language, so I am not going to write a comment in that. I am thinking about joining my university formula team, but the tracks between the cones are really bugging me. Why dont they use tarmac tracks for kartcross? It is basically the same thing. This way it is very unatractive for potential viewers. I think the machines that people working on them make are extraordinary, it would be very cool to see them in a proper race. Or isn´t the racing license an issue?
@@AdamPetr the FS is not about racing, it's about learning the engineering, marketing and everything that is connected to a project like this. Thus, the dynamic disciplines are meant to show the dynamics of these cars. Moreover you spend a LOT of time on designing and building a car - most parts are self made and there are not a lot of spare parts because of cost and time. Wheel to wheel would be too risky as there is always contact. Also you are not allowed to have a racing license to keep the playing field level. These events are the height of a season. After months of "sweat blood and tears" you finally can present your very own creation and show everyone what you came up with. It's a great experience and definetly worth it. And then a track made of cones won't bother you at all anymore ;D There are a lot of other reasons why they keep it on this "level" but I hope you get what I'm saying.

0:42-0:45 the mistake they made was the violent and late braking in the chicane, and flooring the throttle. What I'm talking about is most obvious in the "chicanes", the driver starts turning well after the apex of the first corner and then doesnt straighten out until well after the apex of the second corner, as if trying to stay centred on the track on purpose. You've only got to take an extra 6 inches of racing room to maintain an additional 10mph through those corners. You'll also keep the car more settled and not have the loss of grip that was happening after each chicane.
@ryanokeefe124 жыл бұрын
@@TwoTwoFourSix The track is about 2 car widths wide. Not to mention that making aggressive steering inputs to stay 'centred' on the track is far more likely to cause you to unsettle the car and hit a cone (like nearly happened just after the start). If you let the car flow through the corners, it'll be easier to driver and much faster.

why the hell they don't give them normal tracks
@GermanTopGameTV4 жыл бұрын
The answer is simple: These cars are designed to fit their track. They don't accelerate much past 100 kph. If you were to drive a formula student car around a "normal" racetrack the car would be stuck in the rev limiter the entire circuit long. Also you could take any corner flat out in the rev limiter due to the aero design. Keep in mind the premise of formula student - it's an engineering contest, not a drivers challenge. Making the cars run at higher speeds and longer tracks does not make for a more challenging engineering problem, just a different one. It however dramatically increases the risk of accidents with serious injuries and maybe even death. It also shifts the competition to be more reliant on driver skill, and less on vehicle dynamics. This is why FS courses are so claustrophobic.
