Great video guys. Clear presentation of the work done, good problem solving hints, impressive skills, and best of all, minimal attempts to clown around/be humorous like a "reality" TV show. Subscribed! I wish I had Dom on retainer, he is clearly a very skilled fabricator. I wish I could TIG like him.

Do you think that FD needs to make a new rule about engine bay cages, or tying in the cage to the strut towers? Seems like it could help with car longevity along with safety...
@sasjadevries3 жыл бұрын
In terms of safety it could also cause harm. Do you know why steering columns have to break off, collapse or bend on impact? Such that the steering wheel doesn't smash the driver when the front squishes together. That sort of thing would need to be researched first. Especially the diagonal ones from the strut to the center of the dashboard don't really make the car safer; they are basically what we engineers call "zero force members". I don't want to say his extra measures spoiled everything, or that the car is unsafe, the car is fine; I'm just saying that as an engineer I don't see that much of a benefit, and the extra measures COULD be (a little) harmful. And if you want longevity, then have a look at what the Russians have implemented with the Flanker F. They basically made a carbon fibre leaf-spring between the bumper and the chassis. The Flanker has already crashed into concrete multiple times, and the chassis is still as good as new; the crash absorbers turned out to work pretty well. On light contact with another car during drifts, the hood and wheel arches bend to the side and just spring back, without denting the other car. On moderate frontal collisions with concrete you only destroy your bumper+hood, and get them replaced. Last week the flanker had a bit more serious crash with a concrete block, so the carbon leaf-spring itself fractured, but it did still absorb the energy of the impact and the chassis is still in perfect condition.
@gambit61863 жыл бұрын
@@sasjadevries I don't think it's that big of a problem due to other racing disciplines that have been using it for years. And I wouldn't be considering the Flanker as a comparison bc it's a 1 mil car not a drift car built for FD
@sasjadevries3 жыл бұрын
@@gambit6186The real question is not if you implement something, but how you implement something. The rallycar cages that I've seen are different from what we see in this video, they come together inside the engine bay, and then connect to a cross. But here they go through. The Flanker actually IS a drift car build for RDS and FD. Yes, it was actually made to fit FD regulations from the very beginning, it's a drift car that they made road-legal (not the other way around). In case you didn't know: professional drift cars aren't cheap, you can easily get into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for only a mid-tier FD car. More so: the carbon leaf-spring isn't that hard to produce, it can be produced way cheaper than the exhaust manifold that Papadaki got 3d printed. --- Kabargin (the man behind the project) first just drifted in a supra that he bought from someone, then he build his own drift cars, he slowly gathered more mechanics and engineers to develop parts for his own driftcars (viper, corvette, supra, lada, etc.). At some point he just thought: well, we make our own parts anyways, let's make a road legal drift car with it's own registration number. As a result you can see that the techniques and parts that he used have a lot in common with other driftcars.

Yo, just started to follow this build, i'm a sucker for those old v10 formula 1 engines.. used to watch those beasts race as a kid and the sound made an impact... Really this guy Dom is a humble skilled fabricator, but do you ever cut out his mistakes or does he even do them?! I mean, it's obvius he has craaaazy skills, spent some time in classes for sure! But it would be really healthy to show that even the best of the best make mistakes, cause that's how you really learn.. Good channel here, like the production and that humble mechanic 🙏
