ABOUT PAPADAKIS RACING:
The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as backto back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.
Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club

@@1994SHOtime He's always been about raising the bar. Years ago I was talking to him after he smoked me in the second round at E-Town and he gave me tons of tips that helped me drop a second off my times. At the time everyone was afraid to run a big turbo and they claimed stuff wouldn't spool on the forums. So I was afraid to spend the money for a real turbo like so many at the time. He wasn't even a VW guy but he took an hour or so to help me improve my combo and I went against the grain and ran big cams designed for NA and a GT35. I actually had to have Garrett make me a custom hot side because at the time guys where mainly putting the turbo on mustang 5.0's. It's hard to believe but it was considered a big turbo on a 4 cylinder. I made the mistake of posting the build and everyone made fun of me saying how I'll be waiting till sunday for it to spool etc. But man did it rip and it spooled too. It's hard to explain but people forgot that once you made a 1-5 psi the engine would then have enough to spool the turbo. The thinking at the time was turbo's where like a switch etc and would only spool when you when you had enough flow NA. When in reality theyre progressive and it took a long time to overcome that way of thinking.

@@dimitartenchev9338 PS- the issues I'm aware of are oil pump sprocket nut can work its way off and cause loss of oil pressure. On my new build I used safety wire and a nut I got on Bummerworld to secure it to the sprocket. Also - you can get baffle kits for the oil pan from VAC if you're planning on tracking it.

I'm thinking about turboing my S52 M Coupe '99, looks like the valve cover gasket may be the weak point (and oil pump you noted) but they have modern solutions to those with cutring gaskets it seems like. Is there anything else you would suggest for weak points? Cool to hear about your rebuilding of the S52 and the N54!

@@chico305SIGMA There was a time when a horse and a wagon was better than a car. I believe the overall point is in the "future" as technology progress, there could be significant advantages to being able to print the parts you need.
@Hydrazine1000
@Hydrazine1000 4 жыл бұрын
Additive manufacturing isn't the Be All End All solution. It depends on the size of the part, the shape complexity, the mechanical properties that are required, the functionality of the part and how many "copies" you need. Current build volumes are not large enough yet to allow for a complete line-6 engine block, head or crankshaft to be printed. Also important to keep in mind: mechanical properties of forged parts are superior to printed parts, so as long as shapes are not too complex, a forged and machined part will have better strength than the same as-printed part. When you re-design specifically for 3D printing, with the near complete design freedom of shape, the game changes. Then you can do things that are not possible with conventional fabrication (conformal cooling channels, complex shapes, additional bracing, hollow sections) and end up with parts that are lighter and, as part, stronger.
@chico305SIGMA
@chico305SIGMA 4 жыл бұрын
@@Justknow4now you don't understand. When machining a part there are so many different metals and alloys that are needed. 3d printing has massive limitations because lots of parts have to be machined from a solid piece of metal of a specific type. There are so many different types of metals that it's crazy.
