I tried formula vee nearly 40 years ago in a scarab the late Stuart Rolt built for me. Brands Hatch was an ambition for me and my position in the race and my view of events was very much like this. My career was very brief due to external factors but I can tell my grandchildren that I raced at Brands Hatch. Thank you for this video. I remember now how scared I was!

Curious: since these cars must be quite draggy, wouldn’t it be better to be in the slipstream as much as possible? Most of the time you left the slipstream quite early and you can immediately see your speed decrease as your car battles to punch through the air. What made you take that line? I’m not very familiar with Formula Vee so I could be missing something. Lovely videos always, amazing telemetry.

This series looks like a lot of fun! There's a few moments such as 3:10, into druids and graham hill, where you are compromising your line looking up the inside for a move that isn't on, better to keep to a traditional line and stay closer for the following corners. You do it 2 laps later into surtees which is particularly harmful as you then aren't as close for the slipstream down the main straight. Not hating or anything just offering some advice. Best of luck with the racing bro!
@andiminthegarage7081 Жыл бұрын
I thought Druids was my best chance of overtaking as I felt I was fairly good on the brakes so probably got sucked into trying it too often. I might have been better looking for opportunities at other corners. Thanks for the feedback 😁

By inside, I assume you mean the shallower line. In theory a wide entry, turning in at the service road is the quickest line, but my confidence in the car wasn't great, having had a few offs at that corner in previous races, which probably made it look slower than it should have been. 😂😂

@Nathan_Langdon Жыл бұрын
Yes drafting does play a crucial part in racing. Some sports more than others because particularly in bikes it works wonders but it doesn’t have much of the same effect in these cars by the looks of it. Theres also not much of a straight for the slipstream to be effective.
@ggsimmonds14 ай бұрын
@@Nathan_Langdon It has a significant effect with these cars actually. OP was just understandably not super aggressive because these cars are a bitch to handle and you don't want to send it to hot in them on the corners because they will spin out very quick. It takes a lot of skill to drive these vees.
@darthvader0510 Жыл бұрын
From around 2:35, when you catched up to that car ahead, was it the dirty air or any other reasons that you didn't follow the slipstream from that guy? I saw you left the slipstream quite premature so I am curious
@mboothy Жыл бұрын
Looks like they tried to go wide into turn 1 and do the switchback underneath the car in front so they'd have the inside for turn 2, but didn't carry enough speed at the apex compared to the previous lap.
@andiminthegarage7081 Жыл бұрын
As @mboothy said, as you can see from my speed delta, I made a lousy job of keeping the speed up around Paddock, despite the good slipstream down the straight. If I had, I might have had a chance up the inside a Druids.
