Just a few corrections, in the end it was not a porsche 911, it was Cayman, it was difficult to see what it was while editing and narating the video. Also the red flag in the end, during this trackday does not mean forbiden overtakes or big slowing down, it just means it is the last lap and you have to get off the track.

Thats the spirit :D However a basic Cayman on street tires would likely not produce a faster laptime. The power to weight ratio is worse for the cayman, the formula weighs just around 300kg, so 1000Kg less yet only like 136hp less than the cayman. Also the grip of an F4 slick is not comparable with road tires either. If I go like 15-20kmh per hour faster through every single turn, brake much harder and later and accelerate similarly until there is too much drag on the straight it is just not going to be enough to compensate.

@@RacersRushCars the exige was awesome in many ways. It sort of feels like a safe crotchrocket with the sounds, sensations and overall feel. It is decently reliable on track but does have some somewhat common issues. In the states, basically all lotus elise/exige use the Toyota 2zzge drivetrain found in the Celica GTS and toyota matrix XRS. So it has a weak oil pump that can shatter and valvetrain that could grenade with a misshift. It’s not as durable as an S2000. The chassis and suspension are fine. No electronics nor power steering to fail. I blew up my motor about 3x due to mostly a bad aftermarket supercharger tune. Had to tune it myself after all that fiasco

Not really. Some tracks just allow for power to reign supreme and even on a smaller track, porshe slaps so much tyre width, power and aero onto the car it makes up for bad driving and the cars poor design. And i have never met a tracking golf owner who said golf is worth tracking.

Around 4 hours at least 🤣 loosen the wheel bolts, lift one side of the car, put it on stands, lift the other end put it on stands, undo the bolts completely, take the wheels off, take them somewhere for a tire change and then put it all back takes time 🤣 probably would be the longest pitstop ever

Quick tip for you: those individual air filters reduct airflow and cost top end horsepower, I highly recommend fitting a single large air filter or at least 2 larger air filters as a minimum. I tested this on a flowbench with R1 mikuni carbs and the single air filter per cylinder filters cost top end horsepower, which can be measured on a dyno.

I was using the Insta360 X3. It is amazing for trackdays and onboards. I would just strongly recomend to use the vibration damper as well, because when I wasnt using it, I had two of them die after around a year of use. With the damper it seems fine.

how many red flags did you ignore whilst passing the last few cars?

The red flag on this trackday doesn't have the same meaning as in a race, it just means that you have to go into the pits at the end of the lap. For no overtakes and slowing down as well it would be together with the yellow flag. Either way, it is difficult to call anything I did an "overtake" because everybody just gets out of the way immediately as someone faster catches up, there is no real overtaking. You see someone in the mirrors and you immediately let them go. If they caught up with you, they are faster, so there is no point in wasting someone's track time and making it more dangerous than it already is with all these different classes together.

Strongly recommend that you increase the rollover protection on this car. You can make it much safer (not just for rollovers, but for sharing the road with large closed-wheel cars) by adding a second rollover hoop in front of your head, and raising the one behind.

The engine itself is actually stock, the only difference are slightly bigger carburetors. The axle is driven by a chain so it is the same as if it was on a motorbike :) And the transmission is also unmodified, there are just a bunch of extra levers to connect to the shifter inside of the cockpit, but the engine itself is unmodified. I will make an overiview video of the details of the car :)

Racing as I know it has always had motor sport clubs and such. I have mostly seen those who have money to burn to race. Since the early cars of the 1900’s, many of those race teams were “ gentleman clubs “. Rich dudes. Ferrari made a car company to support his racing obsession. Aston and Martin are a race track and a man’s name to honor the man. Who raced as a hobby. A gentleman with a deep pocket. If you go down the history of racing, you will find it is flooded with these types of people. The internet has put a magnifying glass on car culture as a whole. Looking at the track day scene there are few who build and many who buy expensive cars. Sprite had a commercial about this, “ it’s not the shoes that allow you to dunk “. No matter the car, the build or the parts, expensive doesn’t equal better. Nor will you magically get skills because you paid more. But like many people those who believe this will never be convicted otherwise.

You passed like 6 cars with the red flags. What are the rules there?

There are rules for yellow flag, no overtaking, slow down and increased caution, they do blue flags as well, and the orange circle flag I have seen a few times as well, and of course the low grip striped flag as well. The red flag is just to say you have to enter the box at the end of the lap, they would do red and yellow flags together if the overtaking was not allowed and you had to enter the box. You can still finish the lap driving at pace and overtaking. Regarding the overtakes, everyone is pretty careful and it was quite visible in the video. No one is racing anyone. Generally I catch up with someone and if I see they know about me and move to the side I overtake. I would not try to overtake someone who is doing a racing line during this type of trackday. When I see someone faster, I also immediately try to help them overtake me. I do not drive the car at the limit while close to other cars.

Just seems really weird and I'd be interested in who the provider was and their reasoning. I don't know whats wrong with a red flag with red chequer at the finish like any other track.

Would love to see this as a hybrid. A supporting electric motor would make this even more menacing in and out of those corners. Would also help get you to top speed quicker and support the wheels spinning faster during the top and too. Not a clue on the engineering details though 😂 could be a challenge, but at least the battery would be lighter than a fully electric.

I'm surprised the suspension is so simple; I would've expected either a double wishbone or a multi-link, with 1000 different adjustments for geometry, and maybe pushrods too. At least that's what i've seen in my local Formula Renault (not a modern Formula 4, they are old cars with tube frames qnd _i think_ Renault 12 engines and running arround 120hp iirc)

For sure, but the rest of the car is kinda limiting factor. They started putting engines from an MT09 into these and gave up and went back after a season or two to the slower 600cc honda engine. It would be faster, but especially the way the rear suspension is done it ends up not that reliable...

​@@RacersRushCars yeah no, don't do it. Race car engineer here : - you have no front impact absorber, the chassis is doing the job. It may work only because the speed is so low - you only have 1 brake line. If it fails due to added forces, you're fucked. - the drivetrain is in a soft material, it probably can't handle more torque. Adding power is the Best way to Kill yourself. I've designed such cars myself, it has not been made to go faster trust me

At the track days I would take my car to ... trying to "win" will result in a life ban. Overtakes are consensual only and only on straights usually. Those making good use of the track time learn to find themselves room on track, letting faster cars go, falling back to the slower ones and then have a good lap or two of clear air. Cool brakes for a lap. Repeat.

Out of curiosity, is that rear axle mandated? A 600 can use a 1 3/4" aluminum splined axle without any issues. 2" for up to over a 200hp.

Yes for its racing series, the car has to be like this with the solid axle. They did a newer version of the car that looks a lot better and the aerodynamics is improved a lot, they also put an engine from MT09 so it has more power as well, but it still has that axle in the back. I have seen the new ones going and especially the solid rear axle seems to be a big weak point of the whole car.

This engine is from Honda CBR 600 F2/F3/Hornet PC34/Hornet PC36. It has smth like 63Nm of momentum and around 96-100KM of power

It is from a Honda Hornet, the Yamaha engine is probably pretty similar :) Great engines.

Swap the 1.8t from vw easy to tune used to be in formula 4 cars back in the day. But then again might need to extend the bay a bit to make it fit
