Great reaction. You appear to have missed the many cultural references (which is understandable) but you completely understood Forrest Gump's character, his heart and the human side of the story.

I knew you gentlemen would love this film, despite the fact that it is filled with references to American cultural events. It's a fantasy tale about a simple man who somehow finds himself at the center of one historic moment after another, and the "old footage" was actual film of some of these events, with Tom Hanks inserted into it through computer animation. And my favorite part about it is that Forrest comes from a fictional town in my home state of Alabama and attends and plays football at the University of Alabama, where I got my degree. The ugly incident of Governor of Alabama George Wallace preventing the first black students from registering there is known as "The Stand In The Schoolhouse Door," and it took place two blocks from my first college dorm at Foster Auditorium. And yes, George Wallace was later shot while running for president and was paralyzed for life, which led him to some serious soul-searching, after which he publicly apologized for his previous racial sins. And the coach in the checkered "houndstooth" hat, who noticed Forrest running through football practice ? That would have been Paul "Bear" Bryant, a legendary coach who won six national championships there. He was one of the greatest coaches in college football history, and still an icon in Alabama - fans regularly wear houndstooth pattern hats and clothing still today. And funniest of all, this movie has contributed a new figure of speech to the college football lexicon: a devoted fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide is sometimes called a "Gump," and wearing team colors and extravagant team gear head to toe and showing off is "Gumping." I ince saw a fan wearing a houndstooth suit with a red silk hat and tie once - that's BIG Gumpin'! 😄

Wonderful reaction. I was wondering if you knew enough American history to catch he was a part of some very historic moments. but more importantly, you caught his heart for the people he loved.

Regarding their comment that everyone close to Forrest has died or left...I like to think that Lt. Dan and Susan look in on the Gumps regularly and vice versa into the future.

Hey guys! If you didn't already know, there was a remake of this story in Hindi, using Indian history and cultural references a few years ago, called Laal Sigh Chaddha. Made with the help of Paramount Pictures, which produced Forrest Gump, it starred Aamir Khan as the Forrest Gump character (Laal Singh Chaddha) and Kareena Kapoor Khan as the Jenny character (Rupa). The film even credits the screenwriter of Forrest Gump, Eric Roth, and the original novelist Winston Groom. From what I understand, it was not well received in India, but I found it charming and moving, even when I didn't know the history being talked about. I loved that Laal was a Sikh, so when he goes on his cross-country run, he keeps his long hair and beard like a Sardar. I also loved Laal telling his story on the train and gathering a huge crowd as he tells his tale. They changed other things like Lt. Dan and Bubba and the business that Bubba wanted to start with Forrest, but it maintains a strong connection to the source material of the novel and the screenplay of Forrest Gump. It's a fun movie; you might get more out of it than I did. However, the one thing that remains in both is the decency, goodness, and love that flows out of the main character's huge heart.

The reason Jenny did what she did is because she felt like she didn't deserve Forest her dad in case you didn't get it was sexually abusing her she felt unworthy that's why she was doing all the things she was doing I think a lot of people think badly of her but they don't realize why she's doing it because she was hurting so badly
