I had to go on a business trip to New Orleans a little while back. I deliberately took a longer route just to go through Bayou La Batre Alabama. I wanted to find a local shrimp place. I was not disappointed, best shrimp I’ve ever had.

As someone that grew up in New Orleans area, the gulf shrimp really are something special. We had a local seafood market that was a bunch of the local fisherman pulling up their boats from the neighboring bayous and selling them directly to people in an old shell lot. You could get the shrimp still moving. In addition, you could get live crabs, crawfish and even soft shell crabs fresh. I didn't understand how someone could not enough seafood until I started traveling to places that were landlocked and discovered the large quality difference.

21:21 "How are you supposed to keep your feet dry, when there's water all around you?" They had a trick: They would coat their feet in petroleum jelly before putting on their socks, and then coat their socks in the same stuff, before putting on their boots. This gave a good amount of waterproofing, throughout the day. It was squishy & uncomfortable, but WAY better than having your feet rot off from the 'trenchfoot.'

It was also know as Jungle Foot. There are differences, but it boils down to outside temperature; Cold was trench foot, hot was jungle foot.

Jenny's problem is how she was used and abused, 1st by her father, then by every man she met except Forrest. She felt like she was worth nothing and was never going to be worth anything and would just bring Forrest down with her , she had no idea how to love anyone. It wasn't until she had little Forrest and was given one pure good thing in her life she was able to find her self worth to a point and then accepted that she loved Forrest and always had and it was OK to love someone and not expect them to hurt her. It is very complicated and you get snippets of it in every scene she is in. The first thing you see is all she knows how to do is run from anything as she keeps telling Forrest to do , she doesn't know any other way to deal with the pain and bad and it takes her so long to finally figure it out ( unfortunately this is true for too many and some never get to figure anything out) , Jenny deserves pity not hate , she didn't know how to love until it was too late but she gave Forrest 2 gifts before she left, true love and what it feels like , and someone to love and give his life meaning in Forrest Jr. . Forrest might not be a genius but I would lay any bet he is an incredibly loving and good father.

She knew that,n had she let Forrest in her life, she would have dragged himl down with her, she knew her way of life would destroy him so she never really let him in. She sacrificed her feelings for him to protect him. Only when she had her life stabilised did she let him be a part of it.

Really ? To think she had any good intentions would be wishful thinking. What value did she contribute to their relationship? Being sexually irresponsible? Sure a wonderful kid was the result but a child is always innocent not a floozy graced by Forrests presence. Excuses is what I hear from you and Jenny both. Forrest could of had a lasting and faithful relationship if not for Jenny. Forrest was the character that deserved to have it all instead he got Jenny. A sad story indeed.

Emma When casting young boy to portraying young Forrest Gump, Michael Conner Humphreys tried to talk like Tom Hanks, but his thick Southern accent kept him from doing it. So, Tom Hanks worked to talk like his younger self. Interesting note of Humphreys, after high school, he joined Army in 2004 similar to Hanks' Forrest did in the movie. During his time in the Army, Humphreys station in Germany then 18-month deployment in Iraq. He completed his time in 2008.

@ 28:20 This street scene with Lt Dan pounding on the cab is a reenactment of a memorable scene in a popular movie at that time called "Midnight Cowboy" (1969) while its theme music Everybody's Talkin' sung by Harry Nilsson is playing. It was funny in FG because Lt. Dan's counterpart in MC had a bad leg and limped, but he could walk and said the same lines. There are a lot of historical references in this movie. Another good Tom Hanks movie based on history is "Apollo 13" (1995). Another good Tom Hanks is "Castaway" (2000). And others have suggested Green Mile, definitely do that one next! ✌😎

Emma When I was young about young Forrest's age, I too worn braces to my knees for many years because I was born issues with my feet. As I stand, they were pointing outward not inward. Those doctors thought me wearing those braces would correct my standing. But they didn't work as planned. Like young Forrest, braces didn't hold me down. I used to climb trees high up in the air to see my hometown in the sky.

Usually, I don't give out certain aspects of my life here, but like young Forrest, I was told by "experts" that IQ's tests are difficult tests for me. I went thru the experts saying about it. They tried to send me special schools too. But like his mom, my parents fought their decisions. I guess that I am in a group of people's IQ's are difficult to quantify. I learned how to write cursive at the age of 5. Due to hearing issues, I was held back in school one year. Moving to my home state, Florida, school officials tried had me read books below my grade level. My mom told them give me a hard book to read. I read out loud to them. They were stunned in disbelief. Now, as you seen here, MrTech226 is my KZbin handle. I worked as electronics tech for major biomedical company that specialize hyperbaric chambers. Like Forrest's mother stated that we should not judge people.

The older blonde girl on the school bus who wouldn’t let him sit down is Tom Hanks daughter Elizabeth. There was going to be a sequel where Forrest was raising his son who contracted aids from Jenny, Forrest was going to meet princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90’s events but the script showed up the day before 9/11 and Tom Hanks and the director decided the movie had no meaning anymore.

What I absolutely love about this movie is that it's all historically accurate. Every single event. Yet it's written with a story that's so deep, aspiring, and memorable, while putting the character and events surrounding the character into a completely believable, and historically accurate situations throughout the whole story. It's some of the best writing I've ever seen.

Hey Eternally Angelic! I think Forrest Gump is a very unique movie that does a GREAT job at combining many different genres of film (Drama, Comedy, Romance, "Coming-Of-Age", War Film, etc...). And the performances are VERY good, especially from Tom Hanks (Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is another personal favorite for me)! Overall, I just find Forrest Gump to be very Inspirational, and also, my brother has Autism, which helps me connect with this movie even more (I know Forrest did not have Autism, but him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that Last Year, I actually posted a video on my KZbin channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique. If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/haOQpHyfg6aBj8k If you don't check it out, no worries at all! I won't be offended! Hey Vk Deen! Forrest Gump is a movie that no matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old! I just find that it is SO engaging and well-acted that it feels like it is a quick watch even though the movie is almost 2 1/2 hours long. And despite it being a fictional story, I still find it to be very inspirational, and it has moments that I think most people can relate to on an emotional level. Also, my brother has Autism, which helps me connect with this movie even more (I know Forrest Gump did not have Autism, but him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). Emma, so glad you did this movie. I think Jenny was the second most important person in the movie. The movie showed her life from basically the same time as it started with Forest. [some reactors get Jenny wrong, allot of reactors love Forest so much they don't like Jenny] She truly loved Forest and had the same deep down kind nature as he. She was the only one to befriend him on the bus at the very start to show her good nature. [and continued to be his good friend through high school, imagine how hard that was with all the bullies still on Forrest's case, so to speak] Others will comment on the trauma she would have had to deal with [an obviously very deep wounding of her] so I won't go into that, just point out that they [as the two main subjects of the plot] were basically two kind hearted and worthy people from two different upbringings. She talks of how their lives are so different. [recognizing her flaws] She repeatedly lets Forrest know she Does Love Him [always in a sad tone, knowing she could hurt the one true constant good in her life if she let him into hers then] And not wanting to hurt the only true one she did love would say "You don't want to marry me" [imagine how it must have hurt her to have to tell him that!]. She had to fix herself [with no help from anyone in those days -totally on her own to heal herself] before worthiness could take place. Forrest helped everyone! And the way he helped her was finally to let her find the first true lovemaking she had ever done after she recovered at his house. [her choice finally to see it's OK to have a good man watch over her as she obviously made the best decision of her life to "clean up" -with all the sleeping that was needed] When she agreed with Forrest that he would make a good husband on those stairs it led to the final "fix" that happened when she would have felt so badly when he thought she didn't love him. She finally allowed herself to express to him [and herself] the lovemaking she had never known and was always afraid to accept. It was real. It was good. [for both of them] And it was time to leave [yes, once again] but this time Not Running. It was time to make herself a good clean life without his help to be sure she wouldn't hurt him to be with him. [remember she was really new to the clean life, with just those few weeks or so clean so far] She proved it to herself and It isn't clear in the movie but she may well have written the letter for him to come before she found out her condition [he was running for years] and either way I believe she would have contacted Forrest about his child even if she had not come down with Hepatitis C [a not defined or understood illness back then -it wasn't aids as the author has said it was Hep C] Remember when she left the last time she would not have known she was pregnant yet, just that she needed to be sure she was worthy to live up to the love she felt for him that night of her first true loving. Two deep down Good People, with very different lives who non the less helped each other throughout their life's even as differently as it went for them. One finding it very easy to let the deep-down good person show, the other struggling greatly to let that nature show. Together it showed in both of them easily. It was a true love story from beginning to end. That's all I got to say about that.

Irony... when Dan tells Forrest Gump if he becomes a shrimp boat captain I'll be an astronaut! Then later tells him his legs are made of Space Shuttle material! Then they both star in Apollo 13! Also, type in here, Forrest Gump speech!! Young Forrest Gump actor grows up and joins the army!😮

Just discovered your channel. I'm glad to find a reactor who will at least get the basic info of a movie (like the date and actors) before viewing. "First time" is taken too far by too many.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayel of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." -Ralph Waldo Emerson...Thanks 4 the empathy & LOVE! Channels like this are a Blessing to the world! Every little bit helps!🙏 Just found ya, but will be seeing you hopefully soon. Greetings from Nashville.✌😎❤

The only issue in this movie is how Jenny keeps his son a secret for all those years she only reaches out to him after all this time later because she's sick and is going to die. I feel bad for forest.
