That's nothing, you can spike jump while moving toward spikes as long as it's timed right. 1:06 is what blows my mind. My best guess on how that "riding" the spikes thing works is that since I know you can still be killed by spikes while facing away from them if *you* are moving toward the spikes, maybe they can't kill you while you're facing away from them if *they* are moving towards you? I hope someone who knows this can confirm.

@@lapanthanim spikes cant hurt you as long as you are moving away from them, this is the same mechanic used in normal speedruns in the form of spikejumps, hope that clears it up :)

I'm curious about 0:55. I've seen that sort of thing in downdraft of 3000M, and I understood that the down wind helped there...somehow. I'm still not sure on the details. But how does the spike jump work in this case?

@@jay-tbl you can jump even when a pixel away from the ground if your subpixels line up, those spikes are probably embedded by two pixels so you can jump off the ground without touching hitting the spikes hitboxes

From what I've read from other comments, apparently you can jump 1 pixel above the ground. Those spikes are slightly embedded in the ground, so if you do a jump exactly 1 pixel off the ground, you can just barely avoid touching the spikes' hitbox.

If you were to run this game in 120 fps and TAS that rather than 60 FPS TAS would the 120 FPS TAS be faster or the same? I know that having higher than 60 FPS is cheating but was curious. And would it be the same case for every game?

It varies between games - Celeste is locked at 60 Hz, and most games that are supposed to be run at a certain frame rate have to be TASed at that speed. In a game like Towerfall (TAS of that is pretty cool btw), increasing the frame rate does not make the game run faster, but makes faster speeds possible, so the TAS is done at a higher frame rate. This is not something that has come up often in the past, and with libTAS, which allows you to set a specific framerate, becoming more popular, I would be surprised if it didn't come up again.

The earlier you cancel a dodge in Towerfall, the faster you move, so having a higher frame rate allows a dodge to be cancelled faster, resulting in higher speeds.

the climb up the corners in the first screen requires some extremely unviable jump inputs and would be one of the most intimidating parts for an unassisted run so uh! probably nowhere! sorry to disappoint you! if anyone could get past that the spike climb around 29 sec IGT requires alternating left and right every frame and is the first thing that is indisputably TAS-only
