Sadly the reason he retired wasn't so much that he got to old, it was that he had to many injuries because in literally every game the other team would have someone just follow him around and tackle him the moment they could.

@@freakazoid4691 I'm a swede and my big brother literally played with him when they were kids. Not that we have contact with him now, but having family still in the area it's a known fact. Not that I can give you any sources so take it or leave it. It's just not something he can openly talk about without bringing shame to people he still respects, as well as tearing wounds and rifts. There's a swedish documentary about hockey that was newly made, pretty much every single swede from the very first to play in America said that the amount of physical taxation was extremely detrimental to the longevity of careers.

All accolades have already been written. I’ll just reiterate them, because watching Peter Forsberg videos still gives me goosebumps, borderline tears. He was an absolute ice hockey phenom! What most younger folks don’t get is that Forsberg’s career coincided with the worst spectator-friendly and hockey-unaesthetic era of clutch-and-grab. Technical forwards were much more easily shut down without drawing opposing team penalties. It’s of course all hypothetical, and you can’t compare eras, but I honestly believe that Peter Forsberg would have surpassed Wayne Gretzky’s points per game average had he played either before the 90’s and early 2000’s, or after 2005.

However, when both of these guys played, in particular Orr, it was a very different game. 1/2 the team were enforcers with no skills whatsoever. The game today is physically tougher, faster and more difficult. Just look at the goalies that saves 92-93 out of a 100 shots today. When Orr played, the top guys were around 85 out of a 100. No doubt that Orr was extremely talented, but I doubt he would even survive a training with the guys today.

In the interview after the game he was furious and said that ”If I’m this bad, I might as well quit right now!!”. Why? Because the other teams goal was scored after he accidentally gave the puck away, when they had a 5-0 lead. That says a lot about how he was….

I'm born '93 and am Swedish. For me, my teammates in my hockey team and the hockey-interested people in my school Peter Forsberg was pretty much THE guy to cheer for and have as your guy to look up to.

Miss those times with forsberg and joe sakic, kamensky.. Mario, federov and so on in the league, good times! Still have a bag i made in school when i was little with the avalanche logo, it looks pretty damn good, was 11 when i made it. Most have gotten help with it, cant remember it much.. 😂

People forget how dominant Forsberg could be. He's won stanley cup games nearly single handedly. If you had an all-time fantasy draft you wouldnt be disappointed taking Forsberg #1.

Forsberg has won two Olympic golds (1994 and 2006), two World Cup golds (1992 and 1998) and two Stanley Cups (1996 and 2001). He can be happy with a decent career.

If i were to explain to someone not fortunate enough to see him play at his peak it would go something like this: Imagine the level of skill to absolutely ridicule one of the all time great hall of famer-defensemen (Nic Lidström) as seen in the video. What made Forsberg outstanding was his ability to play at that level in pretty much every element of the game. He combined an extraordinary understanding of the game with delicate handling of the puck and brutal physical play. Typically for his style of hockey would be the way he combined those skills in the offensive zone, controlling and covering the puck whilst hitting the guy who tries to hit him. He would not only score the most points, he'd regularly absolutely steamroll the most notorious heavy hitters in the league. Just ask Nik Kronwall.
