The time between the lockouts 1994 - 2004 was named the clutch and grab era, the era of "the trap". It´s dominator was Peter Forsberg, "The force", "Foppa", Peter the Great.

I got to see a bunch of his games here in Denver from the mid '90s on and feel VERY fortunate that I did. Just an unbelievable talent. Shooting, puck handling, offense, defense, strong as hell... he did it all, the total package. As a Finn we love to hate Swedish players, at the same time we have the most respect for them and the combination of those two things make each clash in the hockey rink an event, some more memorable than others, still it is always a special moment. Peter Forsberg gave us Finnish hockey fans some bitter lessons, so we were afraid of him, hated him, loved him and marveled at him. Sundin loved to taunt, that was his style, Forsberg was gracious off the ice; after going through this crazy fucking hooking and cross-checking etc, and never complained about his injuries. My kudos to Foppa.

All accolades have already been written. I’ll just reiterate them, because watching Peter Forsberg videos still gives me goosebumps, borderline tears. He was an absolute ice hockey phenom! What most younger folks don’t get is that Forsberg’s career coincided with the worst spectator-friendly and hockey-unaesthetic era of clutch-and-grab. Technical forwards were much more easily shut down without drawing opposing team penalties. It’s of course all hypothetical, and you can’t compare eras, but I honestly believe that Peter Forsberg would have surpassed Wayne Gretzky’s points per game average had he played either before the 90’s and early 2000’s, or after 2005.

When Jagr and Forsberg decided to rag the puck, it was almost impossible to take it away from them! Best in the business ever! Sid might be the closest, in terms of possession game.
