1.If you look the the ages of the women the prophet married you can see a trend of older women. This shows he had no proclivities for younger. 2. It was advised to him from a dream from god and her father who wanted to strengthen ties. 3. From all of her written works nothing shows up about how he mistreated her even far after his death. 4. The quality of life was horrible back then especially the early Muslims as they were actively fighting and being oppressed by the pagans at the time. 5. He waited 3 years after marriage to consumate it when she finally reach puberty. A pdf file would do it as young as possible but it was clearly only done to have offspring. Because back then there was high child mortality rates so people started as early as they could to get married. 4 daughters and two sons of his died in their infancy. Which just goes to show the high mortality rate back then and the need to have children as young as possible.

The age of her is only known through one sentence not from the quran, from a hadith narration. Its impossible to know and its not very relevant. As for Ayesha, she was one of the biggest spreaders of islam, she died a lot later than prophet Muhammad and was responsible for spreading islams teachings. I dont recall the exact statistic but a LOT of hadiths are attributed to her. Also what a lot of non muslims dont know is that she was the daughter of abu bakr, and if you dont know who that is he was bassically the companion and one of the first muslims and arguabbly had the most power, as he became the ruler after prophet muhammad died. Regardless of what you think of underage marriage... it is clear that there is political elements involved here, marrying daughters off to leaders was pretty common as it would make you a part of their family.
