I always liked trees/bonsai. And now with your knowledge I have the guts to try some myself. Recently got myself a little metasequoia bonsai. And some other young trees, japanese maple a little black pine and a little fig. Just to try some things myself! Thank you for charing your experience and enthousiasme with the world! Greetings from Belgium!

In Denmark we Call this plant gold Rain and i just found a big multi trunk tree in a dumpster i Will let it grow new roots and Maybe try giving it a New life as a bonsai
@pansepot14903 жыл бұрын
In English gold rain is a different plant. “Laburnum anagyroides, the common laburnum, golden chain or golden rain, is a species in the subfamily Faboideae, and genus Laburnum.” It has pendulous flowers similar to wisteria only yellow instead of purple.
@mchlbk3 жыл бұрын
Anders, this is not guldregn, it's called forsythia in Denmark too. Some people call it vårguld (springgold) but guldregn is a different plant.

Forsythia as bonsai?--I am so impressed! And I do have a 30+ yr old forsythia that has been overtaken for years by an old climbing rose....if I can get near enough to the base, I really want to see if its as interesting as Peter's....if so, I will try to dig it up. These videos are good for the soul and am thrilled with all the ideas.

There are a few red-leafed trees outside my apartment that I think are crab-apples-after googling, my best guess is a malus “royalty” crabapple. A few weeks ago, I sat down and gathered some of the fallen fruit, presumably from last year since they were all shriveled and hard, and pulled out as many seeds as I could find. I got permission to plant them in the back greenhouse here, and I did that about a week and a half ago. I’m a little antsy, since this is the first time I’ve ever tried creating bonsai, and who knows how it will go. I assume I won’t be able to start wiring or anything until they’re a year or two old, but I have no idea what to do in the mean time. Do any of your videos go over how to care for brand new seedlings? I’ve watched a number of them, but I haven’t made it through them all. Thank you so much for making these videos, Peter! I love looking at the trees and learning from you, and I think it’s really admirable of you to do what you can to make the art more accessible to everyone.
@emmitstewart19213 жыл бұрын
Forsythias are one of the best flowering shrubs, but, here in the US, they are the most abused. People try to trim them into globes like privet or box, and it just doesn't work. I would like to see how you shape these trees as the year goes on.

Thank you for your educations and sharing your experience Master. May I have a question please : We are living in Canada minimum -40C zone 5, we have actually Forsythia (blooming in May) and Japanese Wisterria (never bloom) in garden and I am trying air-layering if successful. How could we keep our Forsythia and Wisteria in bonsai in containers over hard winter, how low in Celsius they can survive? Thank you very much for you help. Long live Bonsai Master.

Hey Peter, I’m Sabbi Gill from Punjab India. A few months back i by mistake saw your video on KZbin and since then i fell in love with plants and started creating Bonsais from fields. Now i need to learn more and the best way is to read your books. Now i need a favour from you if its fusible for you to send me a copy of your book which you judge would be best for me and it will be a cherry on top if you manage to sign it and of course i have an option to buy from the store but since it’s lockdown here at my place I won’t be able to purchase. Waiting for your reply. Yours Faithfully Sabbi Gill

I have been working with Bonsai for about 20 years now. This year I have a few trees that I want to dig out of the ground and plant in pots. Similar to what you have going on in the video here. My problem is Where do I find pots?????? Now 10 years ago it was not to hard to find a 3 to 4" shallow pot about 24" long and wide. Anything larger than Med size pot would be good. I have gone to all my old suppliers but recently here in Canada they are hard to find. I would love to start working large bonsai. 24x16 would be an acceptable size but could go bigger also.. any advice where I could find some online ???????? im not a dealer just an avid amature . As you know after that many years I have a few with large trunks and would like to keep them .

The question is, can the branches of the forsythia be wired and shaped? I had one several years ago and I gave up and ended planting it in the wild and leaving it there.

Safest time is from when they drop their leaves until before flowering. I myself had two large plants that had overgrown their space. Cut them back hard, dug them up in autumn and now developing as bonsai. Recovered no problem. They root very easily so maybe they can be moved even during the growing season however I would avoid doing it in the summer heat.

It is an offence to send or import plants and seeds to the US without prior permission or import licence. Not an easy process I am afraid. So even if I wanted to, it would not be possible. What a shame.
