Drive with us around Fort Smith Arkansas. Also Know as Brick Town. Lovely little town.
Fort Smith is the second-largest city in Arkansas and one of the two county seats of Sebastian County.[4] As of the 2010 Census, the population was 86,209.[5] With an estimated population of 88,037[6] in 2017, it is the principal city of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area, a region of 298,592 residents that encompasses the Arkansas counties of Crawford, Franklin, and Sebastian, and the Oklahoma counties of Le Flore and Sequoyah.
Fort Smith has a sister city relationship with Cisterna, Italy, site of the World War II Battle of Cisterna, fought by United States Army Rangers commanded by Fort Smith native William O. Darby. The city also has a mutual friendship-city relationship with Jining, China.[7][8][9]
Fort Smith lies on the Arkansas-Oklahoma state border, situated at the confluence of the Arkansas and Poteau rivers, also known as Belle Point. Fort Smith was established as a western frontier military post in 1817, when it was also a center of fur trading. The city developed there. It became well known as a base for migrants' settling of the "Wild West" and for its law enforcement heritage.
In 2007, the city of Fort Smith was selected by the United States Department of the Interior as the site of the new United States Marshals Service National Museum, slated to open in 2019.[

I lived in Fort Smith from 1989 to 2000 Ft Smith is filled with historical and cultural history. I owned the Ayers mansion on North 12th street. I restored the 8000 square foot 5 floor structure. It was built in 1870. The famous hanging judge Issac C Parker used to eat Sunday dinners at my old house.

Stomping grounds, Muldrow, Roland, The Fort, Spiro, POTEAU, this whole area is candy for any historian. Pretty much that way clean to Little Rock, which is pretty storied itself.

It’s too bad you didn’t keep driving down Rogers Ave. Honestly, you barely entered the town and stayed in the oldest part. You should come back and spend some time here.

Thanks for the memories. It's been since 2002 when I left FS. You should have checked out Van Buren. Talk about historic. Their downtown area is so cool and rich in historic buildings. Benson's Grill used to be our Sunday lunch place after church every week. Small little place but amazing food.

They have the whole downtown lit up at Christmas time. I lived there for nine years and miss it horribly. That church is a catholic church/school. The big building on the right side of that church used to be the old Sparks Hospital way back when which was converted into an apartment building.

Used to live in Muldrow, OK when I was a kid which was right across the border from Fort Smith, though we lived in Fort Smith too. Wish you'd have gone on a little while longer though. I'd never move back there, but I would like to visit one day to relive the nostalgia.

@@buzzsawyer7997 Acme Brick Company was located on Old Greenwood Road. It's gone out of business now, but they shipped red bricks all over the country. I was vacationing in NYC a few years ago and found some of the old streets were paved with Acme bricks, a lot in Harlem.

On the other hand, I've lived here my whole (middle aged) life and have always loved it and know MANY who do. I'm not disparaging your view, but it always gets me when people try to present their view as "fact" as you have. Why not just say YOU don't care for it? Also, what are you doing here that you've been a five-time crime victim? I can't recall ever being victimized and I'm 47. I may be forgetting something, but FIVE TIMES?! Seems odd. Anyway, only real point was, opinions vary on Ft Smith as they do everywhere. 🤷‍♂️
