if you didnt want to pay for a golfcart or take the bus internally is it walkable? Or too far to walk? We have been to the Fort for dining and visiting the horses but never stayed there.

You could, but it's a bit of a walk. From where we were, walking to the Settlement would have been around 25 minutes. And with the kids, there's no way! Ha! You can also rent bikes as another option, which I would assume would be a lot less than the $70 per day for the carts.
